This is a really lovely, well thought out space with fantastic planting, I love the colour combinations. I wish it was outside my window!!

Hi, a north point on plans would help in giving you detailed advice. I am intrigued by the door in the blank wall. Is this a storeroom under the kitchen? The first question is what you really want from the works? Just a new kitchen, direct access to the garden or a kitchen that opens out on the patio at the side? French sliding or bi-folding doors in the side wall would open up the kitchen to the patio, which is a great feature if it's a sunny spot but doors would reduce wall space for units. A window in the end wall would bring in lots of light. If you wanted to create a direct link between the kitchen and the garden, doors in the end wall with steps down to the garden would achieve this. Well I think your last suggestion is great then. And with only a few other properties it shouldn’t be a problem reversing on to main drive. Like the planters and trees and grass sections that are breaking it up. Exactly how you position them would help you guide visitors to parking neatly so you can get as many cars on as possible when having people over. One suggestion. If there aren’t other places to park nearby it might be prudent to have a section in your boundary that’s a hidden gate? So you could put your family cars in there if you have lots of people over for Christmas and the like ??

It's not a silly question at all, at some point everyone is a newbie so never feel silly for asking questions :) You definitely first need an architect to draw the plans up which you can then take to different builders and get them to quote. The architect will also know whether you need planning permission or whether this would fall under permitted development. You definitely need these two people. From there it depends upon how much vision you have as to what you want as your builder will need to know things like where the radiators will go, where your kitchen sink will be etc. If you have no idea how you want to use the space, before getting a builder to quote, you may wish to go to a concept planner as they will be able to help you best figure out what you want from your extension and how to best utilise the space. Personally i have only ever used an architect and a structural engineer (and obviously builders) as I have always known exactly what I want but if you have no idea, a concept planner may be invaluable in avoiding costly mistakes down the line. Similarly if it is just a kitchen design you need, after the architect, you could forgo the concept planner and go straight to a kitchen shop to get them to plan this with you. It just depends upon how much help you need :)

I'm going against the grain here and would stay with the lighter color, all round. I would suggest taking out the ladder shelf, hopefully you can use this elsewhere, and swap the chair to it's position. How about a floating shelf, or may be 2, above the PC's? For a few books and decorative items. Not all the way across, so some art can go at either end. The red of the rug is great to connect your areas, especially in the art at the PC end. Go with just a couple of pillows, again a red or ochre from the rug. If you feel more is needed, try a throw otherwise you might go into pillow overload! I would add looking for a lamp to come from behind the sofa, one would give you soft evening lighting.
