William Morris brown/orange colour help

Planning the redecoration of a room that will be a home office. One alcove is wallpapered in William Morris Compton Autumn pattern/colourway. So orange and brown.
What colours would you suggest for painting the other walls?
If it was a living room I would go for a dark green but I think it's too dark for a office / study. A lighter green? Olive? Any suggestions much appreciated.

How about the soft blush pink of the poppy like flower? Otherwise a pale green would be nice. A local restaurant in town has similar wallpaper and they used sage green with it. Very maximalist!

I’ve used a pale green, Little Green’s Ulla, on the walls in a bedroom.

May work well with your striking wallpaper.

I have two to do more, but i've had enough for today, practically all my wall done, i havent taken a picture yet because its a mess on my table and i cant be arsed to tidy up. I have a banging headache from this paint and the white spirit used to clean, have turned off the music and just need to sit in a quiet room for now.... lol I will post a picture when it is tidy and have finished my second frame! Might do it later, or leave it for another night...

I think perhaps stick to warm colours as it sounds like you already have a lot of orange, a dark creamy yellow might suit this, or go completely crazy with a browny cream?

Hi Marrianneivy, if the colour is not what is bothering you but more the fact of the room being on the dark side, add a large mirror, a good over head light chandelier style and keep your furniture as light as possible. Hampstead design hub has shown you some fab designs with orange that can help for inspiration. If it the colour your not happy with then one option maybe look for a wallpaper that you could have as a feature wall that incorporates the colour but is not too prominent. Orange is going to be very strong this on fashion and interior design so you are ahead of the game.

Greg think you have made a great start, just needs a few colourful statement pieces. Firstly the chest of drawers are fab, my suggestion if you like them would be to utilise them in the lounge either side of the radiator under the window, for storing what looks like cd's the other side of the fireplace in these. You could put the existing cubes either side of the two sofa's. I would ditch the rug in the lounge, and get something bold and bright such as cobalt blue with orange/yellow. In the bedroom, keep the IKEA drawers and paint them either black or dark blue and have them adjacent to each other on the back wall opposite the bed, with the TV on top as someone has already suggested. The art work is great, but would swap it over to where the mirror is and move that elsewhere. Again ditch the rug, maybe an animal skin would work well in here, keeping a masculine feel. Pick some of the colours from the artwork for a well chosen throw and cushions for the bed, and don't be afraid to use some other accessories such as vases, lamps and dare I say candles!

I love this wallpaper, it’s one of my favourites. I don’t think dark green would be too dark for an office, how big is the room? You could also think about painting the other walls with a simple bright white which adds a striking and modern contrast to the room. It’ll make your wallpaper pop all the more and leave it feeling bright and airy too.

I think the depth of colour you choose depends on the room size, the amount of light and other furniture that goes in there. But I love strong colours so would probably go bold.

I know someone with a small office, they have red walls and Ikea blond wood furniture. It turns out that the red is stimulating and good for promoting communication which is why it was chosen for that office and why it is often used in sociable dining rooms. And for this reason you might also consider the deep rust/red colour from the wallpaper as a wall paint choice.

Thank you for your suggestions so far. So helpful. I had been so focused on the fact that the name of the colourways is "orange and brown" that I hadn't properly noticed the blush or the number of shades of green.

It's a fairly large room for an office, nearly 4m x 3.5m. In fact you can see the dimensions here and it's state about a month ago here:

The wallpaper is hidden behind the fitted wardrobe. It's in good condition and I think it would give back character to the room. The radiator is moving to under the window and the washbasin removed. I might wallpaper the second alcove in the same pattern for balance. I've accepted that we won't be getting bespoke plywood shelves and desks but maybe some more conventional shelving in the future.

So, inspired by the Morris wallpaper, going for an old library style in that room. Got original battered (or distressed, if you like) library table and chairs already. Was oriental style rug over darkish engineered wood floor.

Please keep the colour ideas coming!

Farrow and Ball Light Grey 17 could be worth a try. I have it on my windows and it is a versatile colour. @home_stead on instagram recently posted about this combination, it may be worth a look. If you want the warm pinks to come out of the wallpaper, this colour may work.
