Fill gap around radiator pipe

Hi,

I have just had my flooring replaced by engineered wood, and the space around the pipes was left like this. I was wondering what the best way is to get this hole covered (mostly for insulation purposed in the winter, to avoid draughts). I saw some advice about using radiator covers / collars, but it doesn't seem like they would properly fit in this case duet to the beading. Would it be suitable to use silicon?

You can buy radiator pipe collars which are specifically for that job. They come in many finishes such as wood, white plastic, chrome etc. Found these on eBay but they are available at many outlets.

The standard of workmanship is extremely poor and your first port of call to rectify is the company who installed the floor. However if they have been paid then it’s up to you! Get a rubber and rub off all the pencil lines. Fill the hole flush with a flexible filler BUT be really careful to ensure the filler cannot make contact with the porous surface of the wood floor as you will not be able to remove it later. Then take one of Sonia’s seals and shave off the back side to remove the area where the edging strip would lie. Then wood glue the seal to the top of the hole, again being careful to avoid getting excess glue on the floor surface.

Hello Spacie1977, I think you could make this fabulous!!!.. Where boxing in is necessary I think it's a must.. Why not look at adding on to the kitchen in some way to what is in place if it's sound and solid, if needing permission it's a great way to approach the subject by letting on that you want to conserve! .. .. Possibly extend where needed and perhaps you could replace the cabinet doors?... Painted cabinetry can give a completely different feel.. With the red flooring it may be fantastic to have matt or eggshell charcoal cabinets... You could replace the hob easily enough.. Paint the rads to whatever colour that portion of the wall is.. If you removed the tile you could either panel or paint.. Perhaps take that line a little lower to about dado height.. NB you don't need to add a dado to finish the paint work.. Just make sure the lines are really straight! There are actually many ways you could approach this... Keep a few of the rustic charms... Maybe you want to paint every other floor tile to make it a chequered floor.. Easier than replacing... Maybe you want a two tone kitchen... Looks brilliant and everything can be treated including tall cabinets... Brass cup handles and other fantastic fittings can take a boring cupboard and make it wonderful.. Matt paint or an eggshell. Perhaps half and half... Think Plain English! Or deVOL Also consider 1 colour as this can also have a striking effect on a kitchen... Rub the worktop with fine wire wool and then sand lightly and oil... Paint the french doors to stand out... Here's a few pics for inspiration to illustrate a few suggestions I made... Also consider window frames, skirting and all other woodwork which can be bold and exciting.. They don't have to be white.. The other things are accessories... Piles of wooden chopping boards.. Shiny brassy taps... How you display your crockery... All these things can add warmth and finish : ))

Oo, never thought about running it up into the ceiling! There are some existing pipes capped in the middle of where our back wall was which had a rad on ie so in line with that brick nib but maybe 1.5 further away. They can extend them up to the nib which is suspended floor and then they could go up the wall or across the wall maybe? Not sure what size pipes he would be using but I’ve got a new guy coming Monday at 7am to sort it for me. I wanted to work it out beforehand in case I needed to do any prep work so he’s not held up as he is only here for an hour or so :0/

i think either a expanding foam to fill that large gap first or stuff with rubber foam then try fittin a collar over it flatten wall side to sit flush against the skirting board for fit

radiators collars are great and you can get them in different finishes and size and even shapes :)
