Comments (6)@jonathandb1972 thanks for the suggestions - I'm currently playing around with different options for the main bathroom and yes the attic definitely needs a bathroom added in. The windows in the main room are small windows at the top of the wall to try to get some additional light in but will still allow space for furniture. @kitchenpod - definitely worth considering a bigger utility linked to the garage. We've got to explore whether there is asbestos in the ceiling of the utility or not. The benefit of the utility as it is is it gives us space to let our dogs out without the full run of the main garden but I think it's definitely worth exploring this in more detail. I've been playing with the layout in the ensuite/walk in wardrobe in the master bedroom too....See MoreGround Floor Kitchen and Rear Extension Layout Dilemma
Comments (3)Hi Jonathan, Thanks for your feedback and alternative solution. I like the way you've moved the kitchen around as it really helps to utilise the space well. I think our issue is that we have too many things we want to include on the list to have on the ground floor: 1. Formal Living Room 2. Dining Room 3. Lounge/TV Room 4. Guest Bedroom 5. Kids Playroom 6. Utility/Boot Room 7. Kitchen 8. Toilet 9. Guest Shower/Toilet I've uploaded the floor plan again with the rooms in their preferred locations, but will be flexible if another more flowing plan can come about. The window where the Boot Room is actually meant to be a door, to quickly access the garden if there is a need without having to open up the bi-fold doors. So if the kitchen was to be moved across into the boot room corner, access to the door will be required. Currently the Boot Room space is about 4m long, we have thought of reducing it to 3m and push all the rooms below it up a little so we can have more space in the Play room and Guest bedroom. Any other alternatives /ideas would be greatly appreciated....See MoreI need help/advise with a wrap around extension floor levels!
Comments (15)Hi OnePlan, I love Kirsty's kitchen and I had a similar idea, I will post a piccy to let you see. I have recently downsized from a detached Victorian sandstone . I loved all the different rooms I had, huge rooms with high ceilings. This is why we are keeping the rooms kinda the same, just making them bigger in keeping with what I am used to. The only room I am adding is a utility /pantry room. This will allow me to reduce the units I have in the kitchen so I can configure it as in the picture. Having a separate formal lounge is a big bonus for me as its always ready for visitors. I also have a bit of a crafter / sewing hobby, when the time allows! So its important I can keep the mess away from the rest of the house. (Well until I can persuade my other half to build me a room in the garden!!) Any thoughts on the benefits of having the extension built all on ground level? Would it be a lot more expensive? I just thought if there was foundations being dug out anyway and the equipment was already on site, it would make sense?...See MoreNew Extension - Kitchen design/layout
Comments (10)The kitchen seems a little disjointed at the moment with the run on the highest wall being so separated from the rest of the kitchen. I would worry that this would become prime dumping spot! Also what a fabulously dramatic ceiling angle, I'd definitely look to make the most of that. I think you could put all your tall units with up-lights on the tallest wall to really make the eye look up. Also when you're cooking. That frees up the angled wall to make it fabulous with art/open shelves/bit of everything! I think you're right to put one big window by the sink which can then also have art or shelving. The island could perhaps have a more interesting seating arrangement than in a line to try and make the most of the garden views. If you need any more help, feel free to get in touch and we can bounce some ideas around together. good luck Emily x...See MoreCarolina
