advice on bedside tables pls!!

I have tall navy headboard, mantra gold lights with crystal droplets and a grey/taupe carpet
am really stuck what bedside tables and lamps to go for!
love the emma shipley felis wallpaper as it ties in the navy of the bed and the curtains ....also love some fabric I found which is barbeline which also has leopard print in so could work with the wallpaper
any ideas?

Check out the homary.com website. They have some gorgeous bedside tables that would suit your decor I think

I'm not sure there's a hard and fast rule for this. I worked out the placement of ours by positioning the king size bed in the exact centre of the wall then laying in it to see what distance felt comfortable from there for the switch. Ended up with the height of it in alignment with the top of the bed frame/headboard and about 10cm out to the side (the pic shows our bed frame and I've just drawn on the light switch position). In hotels I've seen them lower down - almost in line with the top of the bedside table but I would worry about knocking things over when trying to find the switch at night (especially spilling a glass of water onto a low down light switch seems an accident waiting to happen). The way I have it means I can just feel along the edge of the headboard up and know its just slightly over from the top edge. I've never had cause to regret the positioning or getting one installed - in fact its one of my favourite small luxuries! Hope this helps.

@Carolina interestingly - yes - we did consider the Calia and similar tables at other companies. We liked it a lot. At one point I was also thinking along these style lines for a breakfast bar, and /or the children's desks. But we chickened out on the table (and the other things too). We weren't sure we could make it work (e.g. we thought it pushed us in to very different chairs) and we were also worried that it wasn't sufficiently timeless for our needs (i.e. we would tire of it before we could afford another big outlay for an extending table). I thought we might be more successful choosing things like pared back industrial or Skandi, or more distressed/vintage in lamps, and side tables. I'm still hoping that will be the case. But each time I make a decision, I seem to choose 'safe' and in favour of the colours; rather than style. Truth be told, I like lots of styles so I'm worried that I'll end up with 'awful eclectic'. Choosing colours and safe seems a bit easier. But I have a feeling it might be going to end up 'co-ordinated bland'. Only the children seem to be able to inject a bit of shazam (the coloured chairs in the Eames/eiffel style around their desk were their idea). But if I give them too much free rein, they'll turn the room into Smiggle. What I would really like to achieve is a green & grey palette with accents of teal/jade/ and a few pops of sky blue/mint green/ chartreuse). I'd like it to feel layered but not cluttered. I'd like the expensive purchases and the base/background to be timeless and like updated classics (e.g. G plan sofas; shaker kitchen in modern colours). And then I'd like to play with some of the current style trends in the accents and layers. It feels like I am still copping out and playing safe - but maybe I'm still sorting out the basics which I would like to be safe and timeless. I'm not feeling confident; it's the fatigue of so many decisions and the usual unexpected issues cropping up during the building process. Gerty I got my rug from John Lewis, but there are some great online rug sellers, just check reviews first and pay by Paypal, just in case! Don’t forget if rug is bought online, and therefore unseen, you can return it within 30 days as your Distance Selling Rights. I would check their Returns Policy first to ensure they are correct and in line with the law.

Hi Naomi, What a great space to work with and some really fab ideas so far! We love the idea of having the gold touches against a bolder, solid colour. What about having a rich, jewel shade of blue or navy to complement, as already suggested? We love the current 'blue' trend at the moment in interiors and just feel that it adds such an elegant and opulent touch to an interior space, especially a bedroom.
