Comments (16)How about something like this. Shorten the kitchen and block off door to create a bathroom which should be relatively easy with regards to drains. Take down wall between existing kitchen and lounge and utilize the extended space under stairs for the kitchen diner. Create access to garage from kitchen and use part of garage for utility space. Garage could be extended forward at a later date. Use the current dining room as separate lounge. Also like Math's idea to square off the garden doorway from current lounge to make the back more uniform. You have a good size house so plenty of possibilities but I'm no expert so couldn't help with how much things would cost....See Moregarden design advice for my edible/wildlife friendly front yard
Comments (14)Rachel and Carolina, thank you both so much for taking some of your time to think and design those sketches, it has really helped me in a stage I was blocked in my project. I now can keep on moving forward, that's so great. Carolina, I like your designs and they are actually similar to the sketches I was doing before I imported the soil in the garden but I think at this stage, following the natural curves of the garden will be much easier for me. I really like a lot of ideas you emitted. I will indeed add a birdbath somewhere and possibly a mini pond :-D Rachel, you just put into words and sketch a vague idea that I had but that I didn't know how to formulate! you basically read my mind. yes, I noticed there was some natural lines, and I wanted something more in curves but I didn't know how. your design makes it all look possible and realistic. to answer your questions, the round things are wine bottles. I was thinking of adding more wine bottles for edging but they might be a bit too short for high enough raised beds. I'll have to think about it... yes, the silver planter is a dolly tub. I was thinking of planting a clematis in it and some colourful flowers at the base of the clematis. I thought it would look nice somewhere against the white wall... thank you both so much about your ideas. I'll send you an update when it's more advanced. (it might take a long time though, but I'll get there!)...See MoreKitchen - upcycle or replace?
Comments (19)Gravel Hill, thank you so much! It is quite reassuring to hear others' experiences with inherited kitchens - never heard of self-opening drawers before, but it could be one of the surprises this kitchen has in place for us :)). As a side thought, I need someone to invent a drawer that closes by itself after 2 minutes of being left open, as even after 12 years of daily nagging, my husband still leaves his socks and undies drawers open... It seems that the general consensus is that we should live with it as it is, see how it goes and then make plans. Really sensible advice... although I'm itching to make changes. Alright, I'll restrain myself to buying a 2 burners induction hob to place in the lower room (so I can safely cook spaghetti). And a tap. And a Quooker! Sorry, but I'm not waiting 6 months for those. As for changing the layout, that is something we will consider too, although we could also extend, and this is what's just outside of the kitchen door:...See MoreSummer House/ Garden Room advice please
Comments (2)We’ve had a large summerhouse built and have been using it since Dec. It has a toilet and shower and sink for doing a little washing up. It’s being used as an office as well as a man games room. It’s about 70m from our house and the water supply and drainage was a must to gain maximum usage and also stop dirty children running through the house in the summer. We did have a water supply half way up from a previous installation. The drainage added cost, but the company we went with used a pumped system which needed much less digging and can be hidden in bushes. We have 2 wall heaters for heat, as we decided to save on the cost of under floor heating. The floor is very cold, slippers are a must - I’m not sure that underfloor would have been enough though. Here’s some pics...See MoreE D
