I’m struggling to furnish our holiday home in the south of France.

We’ve inherited a very big modern dark leather sofa and nothing else!

There are so many windows and doors and we’re a family with 3 kids and a golden retriever so we need comfortable seating for everyone when we’re indoors.

The verrière opens inside so it is hard to put arm chair near it as we need access to the pool from there.

Any help would be appreciated!

Love your art! And your holiday home doesn't look too bad either (understatement) :-) Are you keeping the sofa? I think you could put another sofa perpendicular to the leather one, facing the fireplace. Leaving space to walk through between the two sofas. And you could put a chair or a large ottman in front of the sliding doors?

What does it look like towards the steps in the corner of the first pic?

Are the steps the main in/out through the arched doorway?

Perhaps consider a room divider which has various storage holes in it. From one side, toys and books for the children on the other create a more adult storage section. It won't get rid of television noise but still gives you the option to keep one large room. Live in the house as you and your family need it not necessarily how you think other people may want to buy it.

You could perhaps add a wow factor console on the empty wall, and a nice armchair sofa and a floor lamp on the corner. I think you're right to move the kitchen into the new extension. You can close off the living area with a stud wall or I've seen some half walls with sliding window partitions that allow in light and the ability to open up the space whilst still remaining enclosed. If you want some flexibility, you could design the windows, services, UFH, flooring etc in a way that would allow you to easily add a stud wall to close off the snug/back lounge, if you decide the 'openness' doesn't work for you further down the line. I feel like you could make the middle room (anteroom) work harder by relocating some of the doorways from the hall. If you push back and rotate the toilet, the door wouldn't then open out to the front door and you claw back some breathing room at the immediate front entrance. You'd also have light and an open-able window in the utility/cloak area as well as more wall space for the sofa in the front lounge 1 = 100 x 60 x 200 wardrobe for cloak cupboard 2 = 40 x 60 x 200 cleaning cupboard

Hello Francis, the entrance door could be min 450mm away from the stairs in accordance with the Building Regulations. In my view, the double doors have been positioned very well. If you were to move it to the right on the plan by another 150mm : a. it will ruin the existing symetry and b. it will affect the window.

Thank you Carolina! Yes we are very fortunate to be here during lockdown too. I hope you are well in your country. We will keep the leather sofa but there is not much space to put another sofa and a coffee table where you suggest -- facing the fireplace -- as the verrière doors open all to one side and take up space. That is the problem

Richard L -- the other side of the central staircase leads to the kitchen and dining area. The arched doorway is the front door so we cannot block it. There is no "entry" room -- is that what you call it?

Ah, I thought the black framed doors were sliding, but they turn inwards? Hmm... do you have dimensions of the living area?
