Height of kitchen cupboards

We have a room height of 2.9m in our new open plan area and cannot decide whether the kitchen cupboards / tall units should go from floor to ceiling or much lower. some kitchen companies suggest 2.1m and others suggest going higher (and leaving a shadow gap) or up to the ceiling. Any advice would be gratefully received.

Don’t forget that any cupboards over about 2.4m tall will be too tall to ever use and if you box in the space no one sees it. Plus there is a cost implication- most likely you will be buying far more cabinets.

Personally I think you should get the tallest standard size kitchen cabinet you can, add LED lights on top of the cabinet for ambiance and then get a statement light fitting to help fill this voluminous space.

Elainer, This really would depend on the style of kitchen and the colours used in the space. Seamless cupboards for example can seem far less imposing when they are larger/taller and can give you all the storage you need. There are also lots of ways and types of cupboards you use that are very flexible and accessible. A modern contemporary kitchen is much easier to be able to achieve this but there are still things that can be done if it is a more traditional space. The amount of light that bounces around also makes a big difference as to how crowded a space can look and what colours are best to use. As suggested, a 3D render of the space would really help you see the overall effect and allow you to play around with the space. I offer a package for 3D's like this as I feel it is really important to be able to see and feel the space before you have any work done. So you're looking at 760mm above the width of hob burners unless the hob manufacturers instructions state otherwise, for any inflammable surfaces ie wall units, decors, pelmet, integrated extractor doors, splashbacks, upstands etc. Then the wall units, decor panels and pelmet either side of the hob up to 50mm away from the width of the hob shoudn't be lower then 460mm, which is the bit i think you're worried about.

Stackable plastic drawers. Usually come on wheels so easy to remove for reading the meter. Easier option my be to get a free smart meter upgrade. No more meter readings!

I wonder if while you are renovating it is worth rethinking the windows- it seems there are a lot for this space. I might get rid of the side door and perhaps even the side window and replace the window by the current sink with a door directly accessing the back garden.
