3 years agoGet ovens with telescopic rails. This way you open the oven door, pull the shelf out and so the food you are basting is supported by the oven and you don’t have to set it down elsewhere

3 years agoMy sister has double ovens in her new kitchen, but she has placed them so there is a good stretch of worktop immediately next to the ovens, as well as the island. Even in my oven, the racks pull out and sit in place like Jonathans picture, which allows me to baste. My sisters layout is rather like this, but this isn’t her kitchen.

Comments (7)Elainer, This really would depend on the style of kitchen and the colours used in the space. Seamless cupboards for example can seem far less imposing when they are larger/taller and can give you all the storage you need. There are also lots of ways and types of cupboards you use that are very flexible and accessible. A modern contemporary kitchen is much easier to be able to achieve this but there are still things that can be done if it is a more traditional space. The amount of light that bounces around also makes a big difference as to how crowded a space can look and what colours are best to use. As suggested, a 3D render of the space would really help you see the overall effect and allow you to play around with the space. I offer a package for 3D's like this as I feel it is really important to be able to see and feel the space before you have any work done. Comments (1)Something like this with a courtyard? I've put in a v small shower room and utility cupboard, but you could play about with exact layout depending on dimensions. Comments (0)Hi all, hoping you experts can help me. I have a Victorian Terrace with a slightly awkward kitchen layout. It's very thin (less than 2m) and not wide enough to have cabinets on both sides. The 'internal' wall (ie on the right, facing into the house) currently has full width cupboards and the oven and fridge. The 'external' wall has a half-width set of cabinets (they're actually wall cupboards, but whatev). The cieling is quite low. We currently use the 'dining room' as labelled on the floor plan as our lounge as I don't like slobbing out in a room facing the street. If you were to rearrange the layout of this kitchen WITHOUT an extension/building work (I'm upsizing in a few years), what would you do? Would you move the appliances? Comments (11)Yes. But with built-ins the crown molding should continue along the bookcases too, so closing off a small section of the top won't look bad. If you don't want to go all the way up, close off the top section, flush with the chimney and column, so your crown molding goes in a straight line. 2. No gaps. But you shelving will need to be a bit deeper then the chimney, because you don't want your books sticking out. If you want some more space between your mantle and the books, have the builder extend the chimney wall sideways, see example: If you want your built-ins recessed, the chimney should be filled out.. I would suggest a wider mantle base, from unit to unit, because these little carpet corners will most likely look off.. 3. Have a little less shelves where you want to mount your tv. Pop up? That would be a waste of the cabinet below. And doors at that height won't look great too. Have some doors on the lowest section, to balance out the visuals of 'filling' and 'furniture'. 4. We would like to echo some of the recommendations already made - having island and counter space nearby is incredibly important, as well as a sturdy oven with racks and oven doors which can potentially withstand weight. Richard's comment regarding elbow room is also definitely one to watch out for.
We'd also recommend having your hob and extractor nearby - for example, on an island opposite your built-in ovens as shown in the image below. This helps you to transfer from hob to oven and back again, and can also help deal with the smell of cooking!

We have ovens mounted in the wall, and although they are standard height I'm 5ft1 and struggle when grilling or getting things out of the top ones. I wish we'd bought ovens with retractable doors, as they would enable me to each inside the ovens better. They are a bit more expensive, but would have been worth it in my case. The other option is to have them lower, as the bottom ones are easier to reach in
