Party Wall/Property Line/Debris!

Hello, hoping to get some advice/info!
We are planning some work on our house and we are attached on one side to our neighbours. We are planning a single story kitchen extension into the garden spanning the whole width of the house. Our neighbours have an extension, however they didn’t build their extension up to/on the property line on our side, it’s about 200mm in from the property line. We’d ideally like to build up to the property line obviously as we want to continue the line of our existing wall - but if we did this, it would leave a small inaccessible gap between our new extension and their existing extension, not good for damp etc. What do we do in this situation? They’ve implied that they want the gap to stay there so that debris can be removed of course, but that would not be our preference for the internal look of our extension. We’d also obviously prefer it if there were no gap at all as they can be problematic.
We will of course be doing a party wall agreement etc anyway so I’m sure this will come up, but as it’s our first time renovating I wanted to try and get as clued up as possible in advance! We’re not due to start work until Jan 2021 so we have plenty of time.
Thank you in advance!
