renovation of a windmill!

Hi I am looking for matching plain dark blue wall and floor tiles for a bathroom. Teal blue or slightly darker. I have tried many tiling companies but none offer the darker colours without a pattern.

Topps Tiles had a few the other day. Apex Grange in Welwyn Gdn have some great tiles too. This is one from Topps Tiles but there are more.

Thank you. I had contacted Topps but unfortunately they do not have dark blue in any range suitable for walls and floors and I want the same colour on both.

I have an old 70's style galley kitchen n utility, updating by changing, wall n floor tiles n keeping cupboards and ancient non Meile appliances - could really do with help with kitchen design as I need lots of storage space and having new appliances would be a dream as my dishwasher is on its last legs and no space currently for a fridge- this project has been going on since last Summer with builders letting us down we are still waiting for new builders to start -if I were to win a place to come to your appliance day it would be fab and if you need a kitchen to create your magic in , it would be a dream come true . I will be fasting throughout June as it will be Ramadan but I wanted to enter even though I wouldn't be able to eat anything because the experience is too good an opportunity for me to miss so any day would be ok as I am desperate to get help especially as my budget is so limited . Thank you for considering me . I believe in serendipity and feel fortunate to have come across this just in time as today is 16th! Have I said enough to get me a place I wonder ? Lol!

Hi everyone thank you all so much for your comments. The front of the house is north facing. I am really open to any idea (sketches on back of a napkin would be more than adequate!) that involves making the back of the house a two story kitchen/living/eating/bedroom arrangement as that will get the most sun (it’s just a shame the view is the other side of the house). I am really interested in making it eco friendly and am open to new and exciting materials (even a living wall!) . The access to the back is via the arch in the photos. The floor plan you see is the existing house (other photos are out buildings) but I suppose what I am thinking of doing is make the back into “the front” as this will be the bit that will be most used and that people see when they come to the house. Ideally I’d like 5/6 bedrooms. Keen on bathrooms that are out of the way but not en suites. Want separate dining room to kitchen. Wider than regs staircase. Would like a good sizeable utility room for coats boots washing machine etc. A playroom area would be good. Other than that I would like to do something really unique - weird and wacky is the name of the game! Put a slide in if you wish! And I’d love an outdoor bathroom please! Any rough sketches will be gratefully received. Thank you so much in advance for your inspiration and insight! Andy

Just looking quickly, here’s what I think: Definitely a no for the microwave position. It’s too high and a hazard for lifting out hot bowls with such things as soup. Why aren’t you having the oven in a tall unit the same as you currently have? Have a single oven and an integrated microwave over it. Is the corner unit a 900 x 900L? If those are straight corner bases you‘ll need to drop on your knees to access the corner which is a nightmare whereas a 900L gives you the opportunity to open each door individually or together allowing full access to the corner. A 3 drawer pack is better than a 4 IMO as you get 2 deep pan drawers which are better for saucepans (but I’d place the oven there). Also a 800 mm drawer pack is a fabulous size with superb storage if you can swap something around to accommodate this size. Over the other side I would have 2 tall units. One for the integrated fridge/freezer and then a larder unit alongside it doing away with the base unit. Looking at the image you have space to put them on the same wall as the door.

How to stop rainwater ingress on 1800s brick built building

Chris, I think until you’ve experienced the type of water ingress caused by driving rain/wind then you’re always going to doubt that it can penetrate walls so “easily”. My experience was that I removed a one foot thick climbing plant from the rear of a 50’s built, cavity wall constructed, brick house approx 5 streets back from the seafront in Hampshire. The next time it rained the interior paintwork of the house changed colour from pale to dark grey as the water came through and me and my ex sat watching in absolute horror not knowing what to do. Luckily I’d left the trellis from the plant attached to the wall and managed to use that to fix damp proof membrane up and I wrapped the whole back of the house in DPM plastic until we figured out a permanent solution. Since then numerous people from my area have told me about the older style bricks used in the area that have little to no protection against the driven rain coming off the sea here. These bricks combined with cavity wall insulation filling the cavity were no match for rain that was being pushed sideways by the winds. Hope you get it sorted, water ingress is such a tiresome problem to solve (I’m now one street back from the seafront and have a dodgy roof that leaks when the strong wind pushes the rain back up under the slates 😂)

Fired Earth have a really good factory shop near to Banbury. Depending on your location, it could be worth a trip. (Could be worth a phone call to see if they have anything suitable at a bargain price)
