Houzz Live Chat - How to de-clutter, Friday the 14th at 2pm
Comments (59)A7 for rd66. Furniture is so bulky and I understand the sentimental value. Unless you want your home to be a museum it might be a case of choosing a few favourite pieces and then letting the rest go. It's hard because there is always a bit of your heritage in each piece but remember every antique piece of furniture carries a story - a bit of history. We all treasure that. You might be able to find a lovely home for some of your grandfather's pieces. For the pieces you don't like or have no value.... you know what I'm going to say.... Some people take photographs of the treasured items, or why not a video? It is a way of keeping the memory and then being able to let go of the piece, whether it's china, glass, furniture or ornaments....See MoreHouzz Live Chat - Optimising lighting in your home, Friday 20th at 3pm
Comments (150)Craig, your question on Lighting Control. The rise of LED has brought new dimension to the lighting control debate. Lighting Control Systems such as Lutron are the best way to dim LED. We use Lighting Control Systems with 0-10v, DALI and DMX dimming and it's possible to get very smooth dimming to really low levels. I don't really want to suggest one system over another. I'm sure they all have their strengths. Rako offers wireless flexibility for retrofit applications, Lutron has a superb heritage and history of fantastic reliability. I'd look for dealers who are really experienced in using the system and a manufacturer with a strong local support infrastructure. We've got an introduction to Lighting Control Systems on our site here and there are some useful manufacturer downloads. http://www.brilliantlighting.co.uk/lighting-control/...See MoreHouzz Live Chat - Get your garden ready for summer, May 15th at 3pm
Comments (143)Hello donned2004, Well you could remove all the things from the hearth.. So it has more space.. Hang the mirror and paint the chimney breast a nice colour to bring the fireplace into full focus.. If you wanted to have an even bigger recess.. you could open the fire out up to the sides of the wooden surround.. So taking out the 30's tiles.. Make sure the lintel is in place or doesn't need replacing and keep the surround it's rather nice.. Remove the current tiled hearth if you chose to open it out more.. and install a flat piece of slate.. So then you would have an open brick recess and a lovely iron basket could sit nicely inside for logs! Another idea to continue into the room.. might be to look at painting the woodwork a colour to compliment any wall colours you have.... Some lovely painted floorboards, or parquet or a natural Jute or Coir flooring if you have not already decided upon something.. : ))...See MoreNew kitchen in UK
Comments (23)Hi LTS So are you in Hertford then? As your previous kitchen came from David Dewing. I think you should come and see me!☺ As I say be careful with Howdens kitchens, they are the very bottom of the market in terms of quality etc. Their business model is all designed around suppling product to builders and chippys. No disrespect to your friends husband, but there are carpenters and then there are kitchen fitters, and I have several kitchen fitters that that have customers contact them directly and they tell them to come and see me as they know the customer will get a properly designed kitchen that is good value and they get to fit a decent quality product that is designed to fit the space exactly. I don't pay a commission or anything to these fitters, I just recommend them for a few fits a year. So another angle could be that we supply you with a kitchen and your friends husband fits it, I'm sure it would open his eyes to hopefully a better way! I realise that I am getting a bit ahead of myself here, but it would probably be worthwhile at least you giving me a call tomorrow for a chat. CK...See Morebadger10
