Bad view from kitchen window

My kitchen window looks out on a driveway and my neighbour’s back door. How can I fix the view? It is right over my sink! There is no landscaping opportunity..

Not a lot you can do with the view itself...

Remodel the kitchen and move the sink perhaps?

Add a dishwasher so your not over the sink so much?

Patterned blind which is down 30% to divert focus?

How about some frosted film on the window? At least you won’t see the view then!

Thanks Kitchen Republic! We did a couple of like that in our days of house building, but the support had to be under the join. However i'm sure the engineer knew what he was doing when he did the calcs! I wasn't confused over the pipe, i think that was Tanya. Still think it would have been great to have two sets of doors with one supporting column so that you can open out and see the whole garden, then continue the floor height outside for that inside / outside feel. Or, have had the plan the other way around, so that the bi-folds were on the 'living' side and the window in the kitchen, for a view straight through on the living side front to back. However, the window position where it is offers a great little corner for a seating area as per the Kitchen planner's picture. In answer to the original question:- Firstly check with Building Control, the window is in a kitchen and may have to open to be certified., or check with FENSA, ( or your glazing company, as they should know ). Secondly, have a 'pivot' window. This then does open, but is the single, unobstructed pane of glass that you would like!

Do you need two bedrooms?...... you could make bedroom 2 into a super dressing room, with access from bedroom 1 you could fit it out with ceiling high units on either side this would give you loads of storage and would also remove the entry door. Also reduce the bathroom to a toilet only (always need two toilets) this would give you a bigger kitchen, then block the door into the lounge, this will also give you a better room for furniture placement in there. Good luck, it’s not easy to downsize, just done it myself and we have to remember it’s for out use for most of the time.....this means no bedroom for our Grandchildren, but the love sleeping on the sofas.

I have Neff hide & slide ovens and I wouldn’t want to use them low down. The reason is that the door slides itself away automatically when you open it. So if you take out a tray to baste/turn stuff on the hob, the oven door will disappear and your legs will be in front of the open hot oven. You’ll find yourself having to pull the door out and close it the whole time which defeats the point of hide & slide and also means you‘d actually be better off with non hide & slide where you can just flip the door up easily. Personally I would go for a raised oven every time but if you do go for low down consider carefully whether you want the hide &slide...

Looks like the majority is for window and my partner really wants one so just got to decide on size, love the photo and given the inspiration to sort that area out, we are replacing the paving slabs and won't go all the way to the wall so can plant some shrubs and maybe even a small tree to help make it look prettier, thanks for all comments, great forum as usual - onto my next dilemma which will be posting soon, many thanks all for taking time to reply, Lawrence

I like the window film for privacy but can't help thinking it would close the room in.
Do you have any land outside your window at all - to put up a vertical planting wall etc?
A photo from your kitchen window might help get some further ideas.

I'm thinking maybe a beautiful window box with some lovely planting. The planting could be tallish as per pictures attached but it would still let in the light from the sky but shield you from unsightly views. And if that still doesnt help, you could put a couple of lovely trees in tubs either side of the window to shield the view higher up. But it's very difficult to advise without photos. I hope this helps x
