Exposed brick work
Comments (11)Bricks are a fired clay product and will give you 4 hours fire resistance so do not worry about fire. If the wall is internal then no problem re heat insulation, however if the wall is an external wall then the insulation to a new wall should meet the current heat insulation standards for a dwelling. How you meet the requirements will depend on the construction. If a new structure it should have been checked by the Building Inspector. If an existing wall then check out the construction to assess where and how it can be insulated - cavity fill would be most discrete if you wish to avoid heat loss. Traditionally almost any paint can be used but will need regular freshening . if you like the bricks then simply seal them with a proprietary brick sealant and no more painting of that wall....See MoreSmall Bathroom - Advice needed
Comments (7)Personally, if you already have a nice shower in the house, I would probably leave it as is - with a full length bath. Moving the toilet will be a bit challenging because of the location of the soil pipe. You could choose a more interesting bath (eg one with a curved end corner) and could significantly update the look and feel. Depends what you want to achieve though, I don’t think you’ll be upset if you do what you propose (do check the soil pipe from the toilet can route though). Would also have some advantages for a bath screen. One final thing to consider - could you fit in a Square bath? Comments (11)Wow, thanks for the input. Initially we discussed the idea cutting back the conifers with the our tree maintenance company when they come around twice a year. However, they showed us that just behind the conifers outer green layer is just sparse brown aged stems, cutting back the growing tips would just expose this and it would not recover unfortunately. We could cut from the top a reasonable amount (like your first image shows) but sufficient so that it provides enough privacy from line of sight when looking from the garden. I've attached some aerial views..(I think the hedges are trees have been automatically "ENHANCED" to look more fuller than they actually are!). We did consider biting the bullet, taking it all down and then starting again with new fencing and then some form of fast growing plantation (trees, bamboo etc), something that would at least give us a minimum 1 floor in height privacy reasonably quick....See MoreUmm Ibn
