What sort of floor should I put in the kitchen?

I’m re-doing my kitchen and wondering if anyone could advise on what sort of floor to go for?
I’ve been considering amtico or karndean click, or engineered wood, but am open to considering other floor types.
I love the look of porcelain tiles, but I rent out the flat and am conscious that they could be damaged. I like genuine wooden floors in the kitchen too.
The cabinets are a solid wood shaker style in a very dark blue.

I’d like to go for an economical choice, as there is the cost of having the floor put down to also consider, but would like it to look really nice as I’ve put effort into making sure the rest of the kitchen will look good!

Does anyone have a view on what amtico, karndean and alike look? Are they a good likeness for wooden floors? I’m not sure they are from what I’ve seen online. It’s a galley kitchen with surfaces on either side of the room and the window at the end of the aisle.

Sorry for the ramble, thank you in advance for any thoughts.

All your suggestions sound great, so no help there! I do have porcelain tiles in my kitchen and they are really tough. I think “porcelain” makes people think of delicate tea sets, but it’s baked very hard and not at all delicate. I’ve had mine for 10 years and it’s so easy to look after - hoover and a quick mop. I’m very clumsy and always dropping things which smash into a million pieces when they land on the floor, but floor has always stayed intact. I’ve heard good things about LVT and I have laminate in my living room. It was a quick fix flooring but has fared really well so it’s staying!

LVT. I have tiles in my kitchen. They’ve been down many years and I hate them. it’s too much hassle to change them and they’re already down on top of another tile 😢. I’d have LVT. So much choice.

A deep neutral colour rug to help bring the furniture together with a silver riveted metal coffee table and Tassimo (or similar) coffee machine. OrThis is a bit disjointed, I don't have decent soft-wear on my computer but you get the idea. Still a curve in the sofa for a cosy get together feel, solid colour designed chairs with metal and glass occasional table and a fluffy rug for that warm snuggly feeling under the toes.

I think a more modern style of country lamp would look really wonderful here over a seating area or coffee table. Something like this might suit. I wouldn't go with something too 'heavy' or 'antique' looking: the fireplace is a lovely feature unto itself. There are loads of variations of this kind of lamp if this isn't your style. It does matter of course what the lighting in the kitchen looks like as they should compliment each other rather than fight against each other in an open space, but don't need to 'match'. We are not finished yet but had the same dilema as you. Also a similar shape (L shape around island). We fell in love with a wood herringbone floor but practically it was a bad idea in the kitchen area. We ended up tiling the L shape and (although kitchen isn't finished yet) we are VERY happy with the decision. We would have been paranoid as anything to get water on wood.

If you rent, why not have a decent lino? It's relatively cheap, can look pretty ok and if it gets damaged is easily replaced. I just randomly googled this one.

My brother has just had Karndean parquet effect in his kitchen - it looks fantastic and is so very easy to look after. Previous to this he had real parquet - and the Karndean looks just as good. (He couldn’t keep the real one due to issues with floor levels). If I was to redo my kitchen, it would now be towards the top of my list! It’s not cheap though - I think it cost as much as the real wood!

I had cream shiny porcelain tiles in my last house and loved them. They ran from the front door into kitchen, were really easy to clean,tough and the reflection of light off them was amazing.
In the house I had to move to now, the washing machine leaked and the vinyl SHRANK!!!!! Sooo disappointed. Will be replacing it with porc.tiles!!!
