Orla Kiely Wallpaper - Paint match help!

I have this lush Orla Kiely wallpaper in my bedroom but cannot find a paint match colour for it..its driving me insane. Any help gratefully received! xxx

Hi. I hope you don't mind me saying but the stage area may be outgrown quite quickly unless you put in a big stage but I'm not sure there's the room. If you do go for a stage, I'd put it in the top left corner as you come through the door with the bed in the right corner with the pink style canopy (which should just fit?). Personally I love the canopy pictured against the wall (you can also tuck drapes out of harms way) and it will grow with your daughter. Your daughter certainly knows her own mind btw! The striped wallpaper would be good on that back bed wall with a canopy. You could mix striped wallpaper with patterned on the other walls if she wants that ie the stars? I would probably try and keep it a little simple though with the feature wall and duck egg on others if you want the room to last. I love the pink and green lights in your pic, maybe someing similar with pink and duck egg? . Maybe try some decals in the dressing table area or go for the star wallpaper?

Here is the sofa I have bought the room floor plan (the snug area is the bottom left area) the corner sofa will go in the bottom left corner with the long but along the left wall -facing the fire and the short bit against the bottom wall (as in the picture) I have also attached a photo of the wall paper against the sofa - but obviously it is no where near to scale!!! Oh also flooring will be oak herringbone parquet and a slate hearth for the stove ... Any Help and advice would be much appreciated - Thankyou!!

Hi Caro, I have attached two images of wall paper that I think you compliment your kitchen. The green and blues in these wallpapers would harmonise with the existing titles and highlight the height of the room. From your ideas book it seems you like repeat patterns, both of these styles suggest a 60s feel whilst remaining contemporary. As you can see in the second photograph, the pattern and colours sit very well with the dark shiny worktop, similar to the one you mention putting in at a later date. The first wallpaper is affordable and ethically sourced. Let me know what you think

Hello Jimmy & Vicky, There’s nothing worse than falling in love with a certain item and then not being able to find it on the high street. These lanterns are very popular at the moment and there are a few of them on the market, in all different shapes and sizes. I have found you two high street retailers that have lanterns very similar to the one in the wallpaper which I hope you’ll like. The first is this beautiful tall silver lantern from John Lewis which has the same square design and a luxurious finish. You could take a sample of the wallpaper to somewhere like B&Q or Homebase that provide a colour matching service for paint.

I had B&Q colour match my new wardrobes so I could match woodwork. It was a perfect match so that may be an option? You could match the white or the brown depending what effect you want to achieve.

Just a guesstimate as online colour is never the same as in real-life colour, but if you are considering a match for the darker background, you could send for a paint chip of the above just to start things off. It would be very rich & cocooning in a bedroom, but probably provoke a reaction like Marmite. Love or hate!

A good number of places do offer paint colour matches, but all are not what they seem.

The majority when stating ‘colour matching service’, mean matching to an existing colour already in their database. If you are lucky that might be a bang-on match. Equally their nearest match might not be very close at all.

Alternatively a few offer a custom colour matching service, but see if you can get a

‘draw-down‘ sample before committing yourself, so you aren’t disappointed with the result.

If you are doing multiple rooms with multiple surfaces, you might think of investing in a Color Muse. (Approx £55) It measures colour attributes. So you know how light or dark the surface/material you are measuring appears, how colourful or neutral it is and to which Hue Family it belongs. From this info you can find near match paint colours (if they exist) or harmonising colours.

Thanks all. I was thinking about using colour matching but wasn't sure how accurate it would be based on lighting etc. And every time I take a trip to B&Q they aren't paint matching that day! Colour Muse sounds interesting, I will look into that. Will also order a sample of the Benjamin Moore although I think this may be a tad dark. As an alternative and more of contrast, wondered about this but not sure. Any thoughts? xx

Love this! Yep definitely going for the brown. Benjamin Moore looks like a great place to investigate further. Just found this which looks pretty close! but yes please to the Colour Muse video. Thank you again! x

Does it say at the top of this screen, on the right, ‘Your Houzz’?
