Does this cabinet have bifold doors? I cannot tell from this picture but love the details of this kitchen.

Thank you for your kind words and yes that is a bi-folding cabinet, which means that the doors can be left open whilst cooking and baking.

Thank you for your views. It's reassuring to feel that both options would work. I'm still flipping between the two every 5 minutes, but will need to bite the bullet soon. Looking back at all my kitchen ideabook, I started off saving white kitchens with industrial/concrete features (grey), then moved to dark grey after visiting showrooms. The first section of the kitchen will be a fairly narrow galley with a bank of high units on one side then, after french doors, it will open up into an L-shape broken-plan section with lots of natural light. A 3D view of the galley section made me feel that matt dark grey might be a bit overwhelming. But it would also be dramatic, if paired with the right colours. Argh. I'll let you know what I decide. At the moment it's looking like white kitchen/grey walls&floor/lots of plants on the windowsills. Anyone ever feel like just throwing in the towel and bringing in an interior designer? The whole house is being remodelled, and the decision part of my brain wants a long holiday. I might have to toss a coin. p.s. I love the Critall windows. It's too late to have those in the kitchen, but we're hoping to have interior critall glazing elsewhere

We had a similar situation, but with a gas pipe running under the door sill, (ie just above where your air grate is) We built a step with a foundation layer of bricks, but leaving a gap where the pipe was. This gap was then bridged using a large paving stone on top of the bricks, which overhung the gap. No pics available, as was removed for subsequent works, but it ended up looking much like the one in Sonia's pic above. (Was fine for the gas pipe, not sure if air access would be sufficient for an air grate)

You couldn't fit a standard width door, so you have to get it made to measure. Upvc door suppliers should be able to help you. I have a non-standard height upvc door on the rear of my garage. Or you could get a joiner to make a wooden one for you.
