Covering Window Sills?

Our 70's house has sturdy white painted wooden window sills (shallow 115mm deep), but theyre badly scratched or patched. To cover is there maybe some type of 'cuttable' matting that could be used (maybe washable) to also add a bit of colour/texture AND ALSO HIDE sill areas?

I’m putting up another pic showing the through flow of my ground floor. It’s all very light walls and darker floors. The big splashback at the end which faces you from the kitchen is pale blue which does tie with the hallway at the moment. Any other ideas?

Definitely, my friend has done just that. So granite worktop and upstand, but where the window is the upstand reaches the window ledge, and then the ledge is covered in granite too. Very easy to keep cleaned and very tidy!

Can I use corian for a window sill for a window within a shower area?

My friend has Corian in her kitchen as a seamless worktop, sink and splash back. She also has it up and over the window sill. It looks great but it does scratch easily and it does leave watermarks. She had been talked into it by the kitchen company which she now regrets. It wasn’t cheap. I think granite is incredibly hardwearing if your budget stretches to it. Quartz is very popular too.

Thank you both for taking time to read & respond to my question. Kazzh good thought about the curtains but the photo was from previous owners decor, furniture etc. Siobhan good point, my thought was the same but I can’t decide if it’s necessary next to the table? There are radiators but luckily the one by the dining table is low, same height as the radiator under the other window, (almost as if someone previously had the same idea). However, we have checked & planning permission is no longer required & we have spoken to the neighbours. A complete quandary really I just wondered if there‘s a design rule that says window sill height should be the same?
