TO DARE OR NOT TO DARE!!! THAT IS THE QUESTION. HELP NEEDED ASAP
I so want to come out of my comfort zone with an inky blue feature wall on this panelling. Any thoughts on whether it will be too dark or too much please? I actually came out of my "beige" safe place, whi
ch now happens to be de rigeur!!! Shoot me!!! So it is an very pale grey on the other walls and I would like to keep the wallpaper. I absolutely love this.

3 years agoI think it will look stunning. I painted one wall in my kitchen navy and I love it. First time I’ve ever used a darker shade. It’s only paint after all and easy enough to change.

3 years agoDo you think so Sonia. This is the exact colour I am looking for. Do you think you might have the name and brand please. This is just so gorgeous. If mine did turn out like this, I would be a happy bunny. Hubby is a little disgruntled, as he would have to change it back again. However, I would live with it for a fee months anyway, I think it will look in your face at first anyway. I did my bedroom wall and now I wish I would have gone for the darker shade. So on this, I am excited now. Just have to feed my hubby with a good roast dinner and he’ll be good. You have helped me so much and Hank’s again.

Comments (23)I’ve just had a think about this. Bearing in mind, a standard UK king size mattress is 150x200... or really by converting exactly 5 feet into metric, it's 152.4, a standard King Size mattress would be 7.5 cm smaller than the frame, which means by placing it central to the slatted base, I would have +/- 3.5 cm gap at each side. Also, a mattress is never a square block, it has got its roundness, so allegedly, when considering you also place a mattress protector and the base sheet, the gap is most likely reduced further. So if I were to buy a ‘standard’ King Size mattress, I could use it – given the weight of the mattresses, I don’t think it is going to move around. A 5' mattress would allow me to tuck the duvet at foot-end as well as at the sides, or I could show off the frame. And of course, I’d find it easier to change the bed linen. Alternatively, the duvet normally overhangs at the sides of the bed, so the gap would be hidden from sight anyway. Technically, I can’t see anything stopping me from doing it. Also, due to the design of the bed, the mattress would be is partly inset into the frame, so the gap would only be seen (in terms of the slatted base), if looking at the bed from above, which I’d never do. Comments (14)Greg think you have made a great start, just needs a few colourful statement pieces. Firstly the chest of drawers are fab, my suggestion if you like them would be to utilise them in the lounge either side of the radiator under the window, for storing what looks like cd's the other side of the fireplace in these. You could put the existing cubes either side of the two sofa's. I would ditch the rug in the lounge, and get something bold and bright such as cobalt blue with orange/yellow. In the bedroom, keep the IKEA drawers and paint them either black or dark blue and have them adjacent to each other on the back wall opposite the bed, with the TV on top as someone has already suggested. The art work is great, but would swap it over to where the mirror is and move that elsewhere. Again ditch the rug, maybe an animal skin would work well in here, keeping a masculine feel. Pick some of the colours from the artwork for a well chosen throw and cushions for the bed, and don't be afraid to use some other accessories such as vases, lamps and dare I say candles!...See MoreNeed help with kitchen and extension layout

But you can also use changes in height or adding a chopping block or marble pastry rolling area into long runs to hide the fact you needed to make a join . I am trying to tweak another photo for you too but my Photoshop is playing up, fingers crossed it starts behaving.

I think the blue isn't going to work. Perhaps look at picking up a darker colour from the wallpaper if you do want to paint the chimney breast so they tie together a bit more or the anthracite from your radiator?
Also don't want the chimney breast to clash with the tall unit either! Decorating is so hard!!

I’m also seeing red in your units and “purple” in the paper which as lovely as it is, to my untrained eye clashes. I came across this William Morris wallpaper which seems to bring the colours together, may be worth a sample? The 2nd pic is farrow and ball pointing which is presumably shown with their mahogany. I don’t know If I’d try a brown with a red tone on the panelling or one of their red based neutrals. I’d try and match the tiles to the panelling. I also found the cushion for someone today and thought it may work!

3 years agoOkay I’m going to come up with another shade that “may” go with the tiles, the units and the worktop. iPhones and iPads are rubbish with colour I have noticed. The walls in my kitchen are duck egg, yet in photos it looks pale sky blue, go figure!
The colour I’m going to suggest is F&B Oval Room Blue. It’s a bluey/greeny/grey and looks beautiful on panelling. I don’t really see why everything needs to match. What do you think Vonn, or am I confusing you even more?! Here’s a pic (not my house, I wish!)
