Shallow separate shower or shower bsth by window?

we're planning a renovation of the family bathroom and are trying to get the most out of an old airing cupboard by incorporating it into the bathroom and creating a shower. It's yhe only dpace where a shower can go as it's a fairly small bathroom and there's window position and an internal soil stack that can not feasibly be moved. This would mean the shower would be 1200 x 700, is this too shallow to be a useful shower space? Or would it be better to go for a shower bath and have more storage and a more spacious feel?
But as a bath can only fit under the window, not sure if a shower bath is a good choice.

Still better to have a separate shower

Install a shower bath instead

I had a shower tray 700mm deep in the last property I owned and it worked great. My husband is quite a large man too.

We did the same thing in our last house. Although we didn't use a tray, we created a 'step in' with a half-height wall with a bath screen on the top and just tiled the area rather than have a tray so the space felt more open. Here are some photos.

At the widest part I think it was about 750. This allowed us to have a separate bath. The shower is tucked behind the door.

If you set a 1700 length P shape shower bath horizontally infront of the window - but brought down the 200mm to clear the soil pipe - have a very slightly angled boxing at the rear of the bath ( so water hitting the tiled boxing flows into the bath ) you would have more standing room in the bath to use it as a shower too - not quite the two separate zones you are after - but more arm room than a standard bath shower ... Might be simpler to install too . If you stagger the basin and loo so there's more room in front of either, that would work better too in my opinion.

Hi everybody, thanks for all your suggestions. Both Lauren's and Whizywig's look really interesting. I don't think the door move would work in this case though - see below for the space around the room. I really liked the idea of a sort of 'wet room' shower by the bathroom and had suggested that myself to somebody in a bathroom showroom. But I was advised that wet rooms can actually be a pain, because water does spray about the bathroom and in a confined space, that turns our to be really annoying (apparently). I was told I would need to be constantly wiping things down? I wasn't utterly convinced but not sure why - it could very well be correct! I'd also considered a very low bath with a shower over it (makes it easier to use as shower on a routine basis). I liked that idea as the main purpose of having both was to make both very usable - as opposed to shower over bath and that being a bit annoying for daily use as a shower. However, I haven't seen a low bath in usage, so not sure what they are really like!

Hi Karen Previous comments state everything about the window but I would still consider the layout.I do not know details of the size of the room so it is only suggestion. I would change into a pocket door (losing internal space by few inches is not big deal), new wall wider with the smaller door opening. Quadrant shower enclosure attached to this wall. Ideally would be changing the window, smaller and higher window cill to accommodate WC pan and basin on shorter wall. Large towel warmer if you do not plan for UFH. If you going to install UFH than small rail with few hangers.

How annoying I wrote a long reply and it didn't post!! Thanks for the replies! Not sure raising the ceiling is an option as it would cost more than we'd gain I think. Interesting to see the different layout ideas. Yes moving the door would mean it would hit the bath. I don't think the hall space would be wide enough for a shower? What do you think? Good to see an idea of how we can reconfigure the toilet sink and bath layout though. I don't think moving the bathroom to the bedroom at the back would be ideal as we'd prefer these rooms to be kept away from the main road. Is it a bad idea to loose a fourth bedroom for a bigger ensuite and bathroom? Is there a way that the fourth bedroom can be reduced in size (but still useable) and making the bathroom (as a minimum) and ensuite bigger?

If you can fit a shower enclosure and a bath int he room id say do it! 700 might seem small but if you put the shower head on the 1200 wall that should give you a feeling of more space.

No problem at all. In hindsight, we should probably have gone for a back to the wall bath to allow for a wider vanity unit for more storage. I was just very set on a roll top at the time, looked lovely but we had to use storage boxes on the left of the bath for cleaning products.
