I have something closer to the Wycome set - although fabric (washable) padded seats and a bench. However I love the luxurious look of the Maddox chairs. I think probably the Wycombe is more functional on a regular use kind of table, however the Maddox would be great for dinner parties where you might spend an entire evening at the dining table!

I'm going to go to the Vitra showroom tomorrow to look at the Belleville chair in more detail. minnie101 - thanks for the idea of mixing fabrics and colours. I'm definitely going to consider that! :-) Alessandra - thanks for all the great chair options! Unfortunately my husband won't consider anything in metal (he thinks it is uncomfortable), and he's not keen on the Wishbone (though I am!). My preference would be for the CH88, but I think it is just too impractical with young children.

How about banquet seating on one side? I think you could have curved banquet then 2 chairs. Would use less space than 4 chairs.

I don’t think a wishbone chair will work size wise, it’s quite a big chair and I dont think I’ve seen a table that the backrest of the chair sits under so they need to sit away from the table (where they look best too and you always see at least one on an angle as i have lol!) The Vitra Belleville could work oictured below? I also really like the Hay suggestion, you could look at their others too, and your Eames suggestion would also work well. i have all metal tolix and they are cold and uncomfy but you could go for the wood option as Wumi said and add a sheepskin pad if needed or you can get leather seat pads that screw in.
