Advice needed : kitchen cabinet update / painting cabinets
Comments (8)Hi, I have just finished repainting my kitchen myself. Overall I am happy with the new look, but I think the final verdict is only possible after some time (to see if the paint hardens enough). I have used Ammonite Farrow and Ball which is very warm grey colour. It looks nice in dark corners as well. Had to apply 4 coats of paint after 3 coats of FB primer. So be aware of the quantities. I must say that the process of repainting was not an easy ride. I spent overall three weeks (full time weekends and doing some smaller works in the evenings). Preparation is the hardest part (sanding, sanding and sanding), while painting is also a vey delicate process). If you are not afraid of hard work do it yourself! Otherwise, a professional is always a good option. Check traditionalpainter.com website they have a number of good instructions on repainting the cabinets....See MoreBefore & After kitchen transformation on a tiny budget
Comments (13)The cabinets look amazing. I'm not at all sure about some of the rest of the detailing, especially the very cheap-looking worktop, but you have to make sacrifices when you're on a tight budget. Worktops can always be replaced later!...See MoreUpdating a small, white-tiled bathroom and colour advice please.
Comments (15)Sanitary ware. I'm having a crisis of decision making. I bought a new sink and vanity from IKEA: https://www.ikea.com/gb/en/products/washstands-taps/wash-stands/fullen-t%C3%A4lleviken-wash-basin-cabinet-white-spr-39891444/ However, it's occurred to me since that it'll take up too much of the room/floorspace, especially as the sink faces you as you walk in. I've been looking at other designs, and the wall-hung sink with a nicer-looking chrome waste could be a much better option. Added to this, if I'm tiling the floor, I'll probably need to buy a new loo, and IKEA doesn't do matching loos. Therefore...where can I buy a basic loo/basin package? What's the difference between a 'toilet and basin' and a 'cloakroom suite'? Should I go for one or two tap holes? Am I wasting my money? Should I just update the taps on the existing sink and tile-box in the waste?...See MoreAvocado green bathtub and mixed tiles - need painting advice!
Comments (18)I'm another who thinks replace the bath rather than spend good money after bad. Unless you're usually a fan of 70s/retro decor I think you will always hate it and no wall colour will get away from that. If you can get a plumber to fit a new bath and taps, and diy removing the tiles and retiling I don't think it would cost much more than all the plywood, paint and tools you are planning....See Moretania6119
