Desk for open-plan living room

I'm moving in to a new (furnished) apartment.

I'll be working from home for at least a few months, so I'd like to squeeze a small desk into the living room (photos attached).

I'd like to put it by one of the windows if possible, but I am open to other suggestions.

Any advice on what type of desk to use, and where to move the rest of the furniture? I'd like to manage this without removing any existing furniture, but if that would be too crowded I'm open to talking to the landlord about this.

Hi,

I would put a office space in the bottom left hand corner of the plan by the window. How about rather than a desk this type of idea which could be made from a deep shelf on a collapsable or fixed arm. If you are not sitting at the space for hours at a time you could use one of the dining chairs as your office chair.

Be sure to check you have enough electical sockets near the space.

I agree with many of the suggestions above, especially that there's too much furniture in the living room. You're going to hate me for saying this but I think there's too much clutter and busyness overall for such a small space. I'd radically reduce the number of pictures and knick-knacks in both rooms – especially the living room – and move the ones you keep to less prominent places. I'd also take the coat rack and cookery bookshelves out completely, and replace the busy parquet flooring with either not-busy plank laminate or a simple-patterned or solid rug. Finally, I like trees but that spidery palm tree is hideous IMO.

Ok. Where do you enter? And where is the bathroom? Bedroom is upstairs? Fireplace will be used as such? Is the space next to the sitting room a hallway? Where could the soil pipe go?

Hi Tani, Can I start by saying what a cool space you have! You can see you've made it your own and I love the use of plants. So, what about an upcycle? I think a small sideboard unit or dresser would look amazing. A solid wood so you could give it a light sand, then really you could go wild with a charcoal, graphite or white. OR just to throw something a little wild out there a natural rattan style wood could look amazing as it would bounce so well off all the natural plants and foliage you have in there. If you find one with a couple of small side drawers you could look at cutting the drawer fronts off the boxes, joining the fronts together and adding hinges to one side then this could house the printer. Drill a hole through the back panel where needed and all cables etc can feed through there saving there being unsightly wires under the unit. I would love to see what you go for, please do update us. Corner sofas do take up a lot of room, but I think you could add a sofa facing the window, just behind the tan pouffe, at right angles to your current sofa. I would then flip the dining table round so it is parallel with the sofa. This will help create a sitting zone and a dining zone in front of the kitchen.
