Karndean flooring colour choice.

I’m such an indecisive person! We’re getting Karndean flooring fitted in our living room as the kids have destroyed our cream carpet. I’m totally torn between the washed grey ash and Texas white ash. I’m a bit worried about the random pattern on the Texas white ash but worried the washed grey ash could be a bit dark. My living room isn’t huge, we’ve got a dark grey sofa and cream high gloss tiles in hallway and the rest of downstairs.

Your pics aren't great but I had a look on karndean sight. Much prefer the washed grey ash a d think it'll go better with your dark grey sofa. I don't tend to like grey wood floors, had a karndean disaster last time with one! But I think the grey washed ash looks good

I’m also not a lover of grey floors, that’s probably why I’m torn. The dark grey sofa will be going at some stage too. The flooring is going to cost £1500 so not something I will be changing anytime soon. So I’m also worried that the grey might limit future colour scheme options.

I personally wouldn't go for the solis tile in bedrooms as visually I think it could look a little cold but great for kitchen/dining. Did you have any particular wood effect in mind? Darker flooring with lighter walls can actually make a room look bigger but not easy to keep clean. I would probably try a mid oak if that is a worry.

Thanks guys, appreciated and so helpful! At first I loved the darkest one but I think I'm actually leaning to keep it natural and use a 'raw' oil that won't leave it with the wet look. We have quite dark furniture with dark wood walnut tone coffee table/dining table so I'm thinking maybe best to keep it light - although so tempted to darken it down to the lightest one. Oh goodness, still don't know!! Luckily sanders advised we could sand down the bits they've sample oiled so natural is still an option :)

Hi, I'm certain retailer would like to get paid as much as you would like to have £2.5k worth of flooring to your satisfaction. In contrast to what few imply that you have been "ripped-off", you have entered the contract to which at the time you believed to be value for money. What level of service have you been sold is another matter and it sounds there is some sort of miscommunication on how and with what products flooring should be finished around perimeter. Manufacturer states for expansion gap to be necessary requirement and before taking your order, estimator/salesperson should have explained all the options available. Beading or any type of moulding would not work against bifold door frame, and simplest option would be Premier Trim Little Lip from "StairRods". It's available in various surface finishes. As far as regarding "floor movement", floor should move under foot but only very slightly, as its "Floating Click". If there is excessive movement, that would most likely be inadequate subfloor preparation (if any was applied). As with any LVT products, due to lack of mass (weight), absolutely crucial and most important job is to prepare subfloor. Again, it goes down to what you have been sold by the retailer. I'm sure you can get someone to talk sense and resolve it amicably, and if not you first port of call should be "Karndean". If retailer is authorised "Karndean" installer, they will take it on board to rectify any issues offering retailer to correct it or organise for Master Installer to attend. All the best.

But if it's got a lot of warmth in the wood and only a little grey then it would go with anything. We have karndean country oak, and love it

I’m a little confused (not difficult!) but you have two large samples and one smaller one with the little feet on it. What is the smaller sample?

The smaller sample is a colour we excluded from our final options. The only photo I had was with that in, the shop simply didn’t have the third in a large sample size. I’ll post better photos from online so people can see the two floors we like.

Oh dear I like them both! I think I like the darker one more, but then I like dark floors.

The darker the floor the more dust shows up on it - good for those who love to clean - not so for those who don’t !

That’s my problem that I like both, trying to figure out what will be a better long term investment. We won’t change the flooring every time we decorate, this stuff is made to last and expensive.

I prefer lighter floors as it helps bounce the light around. Easier to keep looking clean as well. If you had a cream coloured sofa, perhaps you might find it easier to get used to the Texas white ash?

The sofa won’t be staying forever, hopefully we’ll change it next year. I’m holding off a bit as my youngest has just turned 2 so want to wait until he understands he’s not allowed food in the living room or to wipe his hands on the sofa.

Think I’m swaying towards the lighter one as it will also match my high gloss floor tiles better. I’ve got cream tiles in kitchen, hallway and downstairs bathroom.

Yeah but the sofa is too dark and also needs to go. Love a cream carpet but my kids have other ideas lol I’m going to miss the warmth of a carpet in the living room.

You could always add a nice big rug. Polypropylene is easy to clean so great with young children.

I’ve been looking at rugs and will definitely add one. Currently looking at paint and wallpaper 😃 Hopefully the end result will look good.
