Recommendations for WHITE worktops...that don't stain!!

We really need some help from non-salespeople!! In our last house we had white silestone quartz worktops. They were matte and very nice but drove me crazy with the stains. They did come out (using barkeepers friend powder) but it did take a lot of effort and scrubbing and chemicals and i felt like they forever looked awful as I never had the time to spend scrubbing each and every stain. You drop a tea bag, spill a bit of spag bol, a few drips of juice... you get the picture. We'd really like another white worktop but have no idea what to go for to avoid this. We've been living with old cheap nearly black laminate worktops and it's made me realise how much i want to not have to deal with awful staining. Is there any product that doesn't cost the earth that would do this? Doesn't really matter if it's gloss or matte or even if it's textured, speckled etc? Our budget isn't as big as before so it's even more limiting! It's getting to the point where we might just have to go with something else even though it definitely won't look as nice!

Look at solid surface. Corian, Staron, Pietra, Mirostone to name but a few. Any spillage should be wiped up straight away but out of those mentioned stains shouldn’t soak in.

You can also look at a quartz which has been impregnated with a stain resistant chemical.

I am considering white quartz work tops but a kitchen supplier told me that they are prone to staining. She told me her mum's had stained with the pollen from a bunch of orchids. I have read previously that turmeric and wine stains can be removed with a "soft scrub" the green side of a washing up sponge and a little bleach. Ive heard good reports also of a product called "comet" which I am guessing is a product available in the US? I'm not sure what the English equivalent would be. Does anyone have any experience or success in removing the orchid pollen stains? Thanks.

Help!!! Off-white hex floor tiles clash with white wall tiles/plumbing

Jonathandb1972, I was thinking of going with a grout that is the same colour or lighter than the grey tile. The hex will be grouted in a medium grey. This has already been done in the loo (the hex) and looks great. Neither are grouted in the above picture. Do you think there will still be issues with where the grout lines are if they are the same or lighter than the tile? Also, where the hex tile in the shower meets the grey tile will mainly be covered by the shower's profile. However, the shower only goes up to about 2m, so there will still be a visible "meeting" of tiles above that. My builder is a little concerned about how this will look as he will have to cut small pieces of tile to fill up the edge, which may stain once they start grouting. I'm keeping my fingers crossed and hoping for the best...

Claudia Raperport - Your kitchen looks really nice. Where did you get your floor from? honeypoppet - Very good point about the tiles. We have some green samples coming this week. If we don't love them I think we will play it a bit more safe with white/grey tiles. Man About The House - The DIY & Odd Job Handyman - Those tiles look really nice. Ideally it should have been treated before installation. Might be worth having a word with a bathroom/plumbing supply company to see if they have a product.

Hi, I would look at the NBoost range from Silestone as Jonathan mentioned and I would seriously consider looking at Dekton which is actually stain proof. Dekton does not contain any resin (which quartz does) and low porosity which means it is chemically resistant. Most Dekton worksurfaces come in a matt finish but they do have an X-Gloss range (which is absolutely stunning) but this is the most expensive range they do. Generally, in comparison to quartz, Dekton does work out more expensive. However, there are different price groups so if you stick to a lower price group (with 1 being the lowest) you will not be too far off the price of quartz.

Dekton also has other benefits; including heat resistance which means you can put a hot pan directly on to the surface and it will not damage it and you can directly chop straight on to it but I would be careful doing this as you are likely to damage your knives (but you will not damage the worktop).

I have a white dekton worktop, we have no worries about stains, even yellow curry stains, just wipes off with a paper towel and water days after it happened!
