Fridge bass noises driving me mad - need better alternative quick.

Please help me Houzz, I'm in fridge hell. I bought a Samsung RS21DCNS and the sound it emits is like a car idling outside, from a distance, and up close a very deep rumble mixing with vibrations. It's intolerable to be around and the bass rumble can be heard from the next room. I need to solve this quickly - is there an inexpensive fridge that you know for sure doesn't put out such an oppressive humming? Especially those of you who are sensitive to bass humming from fridges? I don't want to have to keep returning fridges, and I'm concerned that even fridges considered quiet might still have this damn bass hum. Thanks.

Consider putting it on an anti vibration mat (commonly used for washing machines)

In my experience all fridges make a noise as they have a motor.

I love your kitchen layout. I'm currently have an extension built for a new open plan kitchen/family room so have found your posts most useful. I too will be having my hob on the island and I think it looks best in the centre. My sink will also be directly behind the hob, but there's plenty of room so I think it will work well. Good luck with it. Please post pictures of the end result.

Thanks for those ideas... Daisy do you mean to have the microwave over the fridge? if so i'd love to do that, but unfortunately my husband's shorter than me and my MIL who sometimes minds our kids is 5ft nothing so I would be the only one who could reach it. I'm not sure if the drawing shows but the row of all pantry cupboards is actually across the back of an adjoining room (dining room) so its a bit of a walk away. of course quarantining the microwave in there would be doable but I'd prefer to keep it closer if possible. Strawberry 47, great idea also to put the microwave under the bench except we already have only got room for the bare minimum - 2 corner cupboards, 1 set of drawers, a sink cupboard, and one filler base cabinet of 20cm to put trays & cutting boards. That's it on the bottom. The pantry that will sit on the benchtop is only 30cm deep external... meaning the microwave wouldn't fit inside without modifications (such as stealing 450x30cm from it... but would rather not as that would make storage space there very minimal. lkirk44 thanks for the thought re everything lining up on top, I agree... going to have to work out how to do that somehow! I was actually thinking that maybe we could add another wall - even just a full height shelf sitting on the benchtop to the right of the sink - parallel with the partial wall where the row of tall cabinets start. It would shut off the view a bit but not that much.... It would mean the microwave could sit across that corner without the ugly back & cord of the microwave being on display. If only you could create a virtual full size model and walk through it to see how it would feel!!! :)

I have had time to digest what you all said. Yes, that's a hallway. ... I caved! haha ... but at least it's not a pointless one at 1.8m we currently bear. We like our open central living area, and dining at the back of it, and will do so while ever there is no "upstairs". I have drawn in where a bedroom used to be in the living room. I've slimmed the bathrooms right back, to one with a bath, one with a shower, distributed the sizes to not interfere with the laundry door being opened up if the second bathroom was removed, and lined up the "supporting" walls between the bathroom and "our room". The hallway will offer the privacy for the end room that opens onto the garden, and at the same time it can be seen as the master with en-suite... not that we will use it for that. The location of the bathroom is and has always been awkward to get to, requiring a long walk... but at least there will be TWO... but I may very well continue to place the door off the living room and not the hall due to wishing to make the access easier for guests and the 3 bedrooms it serves. All this does bear resemblance to the original layout, but should stick with what works and not fight this awkward house too much. The additional bonus is it is the minimum building cost and effort entailed. I believe it scratches some itches in regards to better bedroom sizes, segregating the placement of bathrooms a little more, and the future flexibility of moving the living area towards the garden end of the house.

I personally like the shorter kitchen. However I would make a little amendment to that. When you blow it up in to 3D you will see that Fridge Freezer on the left as you come through the door, which i personally spoils the clean lines that you could get on that side. I would build out your nib on the pantry side, so that you can put in a tall integrated Fridge Freezer adjacent to the Pantry. I think it gives you a better look on the left as you come in With or without wall cupboards I think that all of that in turn leads to a more spacious Dining and Lounge area.

Jonathan: thanks, I have considered that but this fridge is being taken away anyway and I can't afford to keep returning them.

Sonia: True, my old Maytag fridge/freezer was fairly noisy at times, it's just the bass hum that drives me mad.

As Jonathan indicated, you need to do something about the vibration. This is what’s causing the low frequencies (‘bass’).

Is it sitting on a wooden floor?

Have you contacted the manufacturer about it? It shouldn’t really produce a loud hum.
