Beautiful job! Can I ask re the IKEA units used in the bench?

What are the measurements - there seem to be several offered by IKEA but lots of them seem either too deep or too low. Also, did you make the draw pull out yourself, or is that also from IKEA? Thanks so much. K

Many thanks for the positive feedback K, these are the IKEA units that we used for the bench storage, the dimensions are 600 (wide) x 400 x 400. With the drawer & door, I believe these were standard IKEA units (with the doors resprayed) however I think that this particular product has been discontinued - however here is another fairly standard bench that we designed using the same standard IKEA Metod carcasses with the matt white Veddinge doors.

So funny! I'm planning to paint the bannister at the new house (TNH) black and am veering towards painting the treads and risers black too... I've been searching for images of black staircases on Houzz and putting them in my entrance hall ideabook. They are few and far between. In your case, I think, with your white walls, maybe the stairs white and the bannister black? (Assuming the white walls continue up the stair walls enabling the b/w contrast.) You've already put black firmly into the equation, adding some more may give more reason for the black rad cab. In my case, there is a very off-centre radiator that could so very easily have been directly opposite the front door in TNH which is rather annoying as it stuffs up the focal point. We are leaving here with every radiator covered with a cabinet - and going to TNH that has loads of radiators ...but no cabinets! Yes, the work ahead is daunting - especially since the area of Ireland we're going to is very basic and not full of DIY resources, etc. I keep thinking I'll paint TNH white - to make things simpler(!) But try as I may colour keeps wandering through my mind! Lovely to be in touch again!

KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF of IKEA kitchens!!! 1.5 years construction site, 10 vacation days wasted, 4 assembly appointments, 2 planning appointments, 2 surveying appointments, broken electrical appliances, countless emails and telephone calls ... Kitchen still not free of defects, zero service, zero compensation, just trouble !!! I'm moving out of my apartment after just two years - IKEA (https://www.ikea.com/de/de/store/muenchen_eching/) still has not managed to finish the kitchen. I've lived here until the very end in a kitchen construction site with broken, blended worktops, falling out stove, gaps in the cabinets, broken electrical appliances and leaking sinks! In addition, I remain with € 300 uncompensated TV repair costs, because during assembly of the defective stove AND defective oven about 5x the fuse popped out, whereupon the TV mainboard was fried. I was always promised compensation during the 1.5 years until I actually wanted to claim it. For example, the clerk Ms. Sandra H. (customer service IKEA Deutschland GmbH & Co. KG, Eching) offered the option to withdraw from the purchase contract in an email pledged for defect removal costs of € 1,400, i.e. 38% of the purchase price (‘Of course you are also free to withdraw from the complete purchase contract." Email of Sandra H. from 19.09.18). When I wanted to take this a week later, the resignation was again denied ("This is smaller (legally ‘minor’) deviation from the agreed condition, which is why your client has no right of withdrawal and regarding a purchase price reduction , we consider here a reduction of 5% of the purchase price of the kitchen for appropriate.’ Email of Sandra H. from 27.09.18). The € 1,400 costs estimated by IKEA itself for defect removal are suddenly ‘legally minor’?!?! This customer-devaluing attrition strategy from IKEA customer service is absolutely inappropriate! In the meantime I have given up even with a lawyer involved, because I have to hand over the apartment to the new tenant - I have refused the offered 91 € impairment and remain on my kitchen defects and repair costs. I did not mention many annoying details in this summary. Should anyone still want to buy an IKEA kitchen at IKEA, here is my review of the appointment / assembly process, which she/he should plan with: - 11.05.2017 1.surveying appointment at home: normal - 15.05.2017 1.planing apptmt at IKEA: normal - 12.06.2017 1.installation apptmt at home: Planning error (measures copied incorrectly), broken kitchen appliances, broken TV, cabinet gaps, no worktop - 13.06.2017 2.planing apptmt at IKEA: complete replaning due to 40cm length planing error - 28.06.2017 2.installation apptmt: incorrect parts delivery, scratched, incorrectly cut worktop, broken rear wall - 04.07.2017 2.surveying apptmt: new measurement for worktop - 13.11.2017 3.installation apptmt: worktop supplied by 5cm too narrow - 02.06.2018 4.installation apptmt: worktop supplied by 2cm too wide & 2cm too short - about 12 repetitive hotline calls (always longer than 30min) including waiting loop - 10 WASTE HOLIDAYS - 26 Email pure for the coordination of the kitchen installation - 43 Email with IKEA "customer service" for the misclaimed "claim settlement" - 300 € collateral damage - Zero compensation (91 € were offered to me, which I refused)

Hi Emma. Poor you, not what you need now!Why not go on my builder.com or rated people? I believe any customer reviews on there are actually verified. You can also include job start date. You can also look on find a pro in your area on houzz or alternatively look for any builders which are members of the FMB (federation of master builders) in your area (expect to pay a premium though). If you opt for someone registered with FMB and the job isn't up to scratch there is a dispute service

Hi Lazylizard, I ended up going for one without any logo whatsoever from AEG on the principle that AEG is part of Electrolux who make the Ikea ovens. The model number is AEG KDE911424B. I recall it being quite hard to source, possibly as AEG have stopped making them or selling them in the UK. I ended up getting one from a white good reseller on ebay at an okay-ish price. I contacted a few resellers and it sounds like they get stock in every so often. If you see one advertised on eBay but out of stock, worth contacting the reseller and seeeing if they can get it in. The service from the reseller was actually very prompt. One annoying thing is that there is an internal glass tray in the warming drawer - when the package arrived the internal tray was smashed to pieces as it hadn't been fixed down for posting. The ebay seller was actually very responsive, offered either a return and refund or a replacement shelf - they sourced it from AEG and it arrived promptly. In terms of match with the Ikea microwave, well I am pretty perfectionist on these things, and it's somehow not quite exactly the same black, however I really do not notice any difference at all on a day to day basis. No-one has ever commented they are different. The builder said the finish was identical. The warming drawer is slightly less a deep black than the Ikea microwave. I am very happy with the end result. I attached a few photos - sorry should have cleaned and tidied up first but too much to do :-)
