Would it be possible to share the dimensions of the kitchen space?

Hi,

Thank you for your message. I am sorry I am afraid I do not have the specific size information as I was employed as the photographer to photograph the space of this project. I would envisage it being approximately 30ft (10m) by approximately 12ft (4m).

I'd suggest that you won't lose much light if you had longer shelves but I see what you mean re interfering with the lights. It may well be possible to bring the outside ones inward slightly to help keep them away from the shelves if you swapped them out for longer ones. I'd say they would look better if they were bigger personally, but at the end of the day it's your space so do what you're comfortable with.

Hi Helen, Would be good to get an idea of what appliances you were thinking of having in your kitchen? (For example; fridges/freezers, ovens/range cookers...) We have a few ideas that could work well within the space, having the above would probably make us lean one way or the other. To give you an idea, we would probably suggest a substantial feature of an island to make use of such a great space, would help bring the room together. If what you want to achieve is a hallway with the wow factor, why not just redecorate the hall? If you remove the wall you are going to substantially reduce the functionality of a family home, lose space for coats etc, the understairs cupboard will become impractical to access, the radiator will have to me moved, you will know everytime someone comes in or out of the house because they have to go through the sitting room. But that is a thought. How old are your kids? If they are getting to the age of having boyfriends / girlfriends it might be a good idea to stop them sneeking up the stairs with their new 'friend'. Get rid of the wall and stop the illicit sleepovers!

Put storage for the toys under the seating so it's easy to get to and declutters the space. Maybe even run the seating down one wall so you can sit on it, play on it, lounge on it, move the table up and down, but ideally I'd want to face the garden with the seating to make the most of the light. I'd paint the side wall white to bounce more light into the room. I agree that the table looks a bit small. With a bit of planning you could build it in such a way that the toy kitchen sits withing the seating. Thisis the Stolem IKEA unit as a Bench, but Besta works well too. STOLEM BENCH HACK
