Nice Tractor shed ! Normally when constructing wooden wall, you would just create the openings in the frame for the windows and doors out of the same timber as you go by changing the postition and length of the noggins. You don't buy frames for the windows as they just screw to the wood. Door frames are easily ordered off the internet, so when you're doing the construction, know in advance what size windows and door frames you want. The challenge is the roof construction as it needs to be sound and the whole building will likely need to comply with building regs, therefore, i'd suggest that unless you can design this to comply with building regs yourself, then you'd need a structural engineer to do it for you. You need allsorts of different sized timbers for different points on the building and roof, so best to either find one that you can order from the net and amend a little or get the structural engineer to tell you what you need. ( he would do that anyway on his plan ) Plans too are often available off the internet, but you pay for the service as it's a skilled and time consuming job. If you're not happy with all of the construction yourself, then i'd still suggest a good carpenter. I'm sure you can find one that will be happy for you to work along side and not just take over, as i get the impression that's what you'd like. I've done the same for some customers. However, you must be prepared for the fact, that you may slow him down and time is money ( no offence, I don't know your abilities with regards building construction ! ) Here's a good guide for planning permission etc on Timber framed buildings Timber frames There are some wonderful buildings on here that may suit, or the carpenter could amend :- Warwick Garages As for the Sheet cladding :- It's a specialist fit job really as there are all sorts of bits and bobs you need to bolt them together and then to make the roof ridge. You would be best to use a site like 'My Builder' to find a specialist in your area that can do it for you. Again, with this, you need to find out the sizes of the sheet materials available before you can plan for the roof timbers because, the sheets come in particular sizes, the roof timbers need to be the right distance apart to bolt to the timbers without the need to cut each one to size with an angle grinder. Here's and example of sheet cladding suppliers Steel roof sheets It all sounds very complicated I know, to people that build stuff all the time it's not that bad, you just need to know an awful lot if you're going to start from scratch and not buy pre-fabricated. Hi. I mean the wall with the utility door. I see where you are going with the symmetry for the wall with the aga, but I would make that tall end unit a pantry or place for serving plates, etc. and have the integrated fridge where you currently have the wood upper cabinet. I've been looking at your Ideabook and reading the aga discussion (I'm way behind minnie!) and I see what you are trying to achieve. But none of them have the same layout. When the feature aga corbel wall exists, it doesn't have an induction hob right next to it or it doesn't have a solid wall at the end (one of them is amazing with their deep cupboards either side but there is nowhere to put anything!). Do you have roof lights over the kitchen? Unless you have a giant lantern skylight and lots of under-cabinet lighting planned, please don't have black countertops. Apart from the fact that none of the kitchens in your Ideabook have dark counters, I come from a place of experience. I used to have a massive, terribly planned, kitchen with lovely black granite counters. Not only could only one person work in it even though it was the size of a dance floor, but the lights had to be on all the time and it was really depressing. And as there will be a dining table nearby to take in your beautiful garden, the island perches will be there to keep the cook(s) company, so facing in on the kitchen is perfect.

I can't help but speculate that perhaps the reason so many houses featured are London based or more high-end properties is because most of the case studies are uploaded by architecture or design professionals who employ professional photographers to show off the finished results. These services aren't cheap and I don't imagine these companies get too many requests from owners of smaller 30's - 70's era homes, especially from outside the capital, because the homeowners won't see a return on the investment. I would have thought requesting design-savvy home owners load more of their own photo's would help bridge the gap. Perhaps on the next newsletter you can ask homeowners to consider contributing any photos of spaces they are particularly proud of?

Redoing my dining room which I would love to change into a kitchen family room but kitchen is relatively new hence stuck with renovating just the dining room. Switching from dark wood furniture to a more modern look. I have really a blank canvas but a complete mental block, need some help with picking furniture. Kitchen is a very soft green, livingroom is beige with accents of blue Was looking for modern pictures, colourful rug, and ideas for windows. The dining room has two large windows. Any ideas would be helpful. House is late 18th century, semi listed but modern. There are 4 doors in the dining room all painted white with white skirting boards and wooden floors. Would like a real wooden table, something of a talking point, then can move forward. Any help welcome
