Design Dilemma Kitchens

Refrigerator, black or white ?

I am buying a house with a north facing window in the kitchen so fairly dark. The dining area adjoins the kitchen and I want the kitchen to fade into the background. At present the owner has a black refrigerator and I am thinking of buying a white one. I don’t want the kitchen to be too dark but also don’t want it to stand out when you are sitting in the dining area.
Would be interested in what you think. Black or white refrigerator?

I would either stick with black or find the same shade of cream

I think with the cabinet colour, a white fridge would also stick out. I think there is another option “silver”

I like both of these colour combinations for the kitchen. However, I voted white and gold cause that is what I saw on the dress. I need to stop thinking about that dress now cause it hurts my head. :-)

Hi Laura, I think they can work as long as the styles are similar. I have worked on a home design with white windows and a brown front door, worked beautifully. I would go for the black frame and door.

Hi, I'm sorry to say that I was looking for similar and failed to find anything suitable. It is possible to get victorian style patterned lvt but I couldn't find anything with a more modern geometric pattern. It was very frustrating and we have had to settle on ceramic tiles for our bathroom instead.

I have thought about silver . Still not sure. The cabinets are actually a gloss white. May not look that way in the photo. Thanks for your input.

Integrated would be best, but obviously you may not be able to match the cupboard doors. Otherwise white. Imagine the finger prints you’d have to keep wiping off on the black one!

I think black looks best. I don’t know about fingerprints. Mines stainless steel and that gets prints on it, but I don’t have children here and I am careful to use the handles!

I think the white color will do better. The kitchen is light and the black fridge will stand out. On the other hand, a black fridge is more practical because it won't get so dirty. Here it's up to you to decide what is more important. In any case, both options look great in your kitchen.

Thanks Holly. I'm not worried about the fridge getting dirty or having fingerprints as I am an older widow and live alone. Even though the tile and countertop are black I take your point that a black fridge would stand out.

Just remember to check the air gap requirements of the ones you are considering before you order -had one in a project this week that required 10cm each side !!!! ( they changed to an integrated one instead )

I think a white fridge will never be an exact colour match, making it appear ‘accidental’ as opposed to ‘deliberate’ when going with a colour.

Black may be better, but a little cold looking in your setting.

I would go for white. Check out Gorenje fridges, I bought one for my kitchen a couple of years ago and its very much in the same style as a Smeg but much cheaper.

Stainless steel or silver for me. Much more subdued

Love my Gorenje Fridge Freezer. It is EXACTLY like a Smeg one but half the price!
