Hello. I am looking to update my kitchen prior to selling the house. I am considering hand painting the cupboards however I worry the style is too old and will show even when painted. Am I better off spending more money on new cupboard doors/ new cupboards? Thank you!
The style is a little dated, even if you paint them. There are companies who sell just the doors and even the DIY stores do. However, painting is the cheaper option but still quite a big job, not difficult, just tiring!
I'd let the prospective buyers have a "kitchen cabinet allowance" for an amount between what you might spend on paint or buying new mid-range cabinet doors. Let them choose the color they like or let them buy new cabinet doors. It will save you a lot of work.
I would paint them! If you have a look at our Kitchen Refurbishment project on our page, it's exactly what we did. We replaced the hinges and knobs on an old pine kitchen with polished chrome and painted the cabinets. The client cried when she saw it finished, she was so pleased, and her friends and family thought she'd had a new kitchen!
