Big TV clashes with fireplace for centre stage!
Comments (2)Hi, When ever I design a room I always put the TV & fire together. The TV can be concealed if you don't want it as a feature. It can be automated if you have a good budget or put a piece of artwork over it that slides to the side if you want to keep it low tech. If its a modern room I connect it to a hard drive, apple, amazon or similar and use it as a huge digital picture frame. Family pictures, holiday photos, favourite artwork etc. Nothing worse than a blank screen. When ever I try to split the TV & fire too opposite walls the room never works properly. It's an unfortunate fact of life that the TV & the fire are focal points in the room and all the furniture is set accordingly. Here is a few ideas: Hope that helps, Martin: www.angel-martin.com...See MoreOff centre fireplace and awkward entry door
Comments (15)I hadn't initially spotted the trunk, it looks quite slim and should hopefully work in that you can move around it plus it brings furniture into the middle of the room. In terms of the sofa my first choice would be green if you want a colour rather than a neutral and it looks as if you like that colour anyway! I think a chair could possibly work either to the left or right of the fire. It's hard when you have furniture in a room but cutting out paper templates of everything or using cardboard boxes always works. At least the tv isn't taking up room :) good luck in whatever you do, it really is a lovely room...See MoreFireplace or no fireplace
Comments (24)If you do put your TV on a long low console where the fireplace now is, you will most probably have space for a chair in the corner where the TV now is. You could put the floor lamp that is now next to the smaller sofa with that chair, or at least in that corner. Then put lamp that doesn't take up that much space in the corner with the smaller sofa. I hope you'll have enough space left for a coffee table of some sort. Do you know the dimensions of your room? I would have loved to put the coffee table in the right direction, but can only do so much photoshop magic ;-)...See MoreFireplace blocked problem - Georgian house
Comments (5)Dear Vicky, I'm sorry you seem to be at the hand of some particularly dense builders, but this has made me quite cross. Let's get this straight, they took away everything that was blocking the chimney, then blocked it back up again without addressing the edge problem and most likely charged you for it?? All they have to do is chisel the edge away, which would in no way effect the Chimney Construction, then get a plasterer to skim it over and put a piece of skirting in at the bottom, it will then look like it was never there. It's pointless trying to make it look pretty. You would have been better off to leave it unblocked, and to rectify the edge problem, thus keeping a period feature. Those builders would have lasted 2 minutes with me!!!...See MoreExpand & Build Ltd
