Paint Bathrooms Design Dilemma

Bathroom paint colours ... Hague blue or not?

Hi Houzzers!

We have recently had some work done on our main bathroom and en-suite. Im not sure about keeping the remaining walls white so considering Dulux Denim Drift or F&B Hague Blue. Just wondered if anyone has any advice on whether it was cause to many clashes as we have the grey concrete element wet walls with dark floor tiles already - maybe safer to stick with a light paint.

Laura, it’s a personal preference but I’d say no. You already have a dark and light contrast which I think looks nice. By introducing The Hague Blue, I think you’d cheapen the impact of your concrete wall by introducing another dark element. I think it’s a case of leaving well alone, it looks good as it is.

I wouldn’t, you already have drama with the grey.

I agree that brilliant white is too much of a contrast especially since the kitchen cabinets are a grey with a brown undertone. So I would search the Farrow and Ball site for inspiration paying particular attention to their explanations of the colour. Personally (having now seen the space) I like All White, Strong White and Cornforth White to complement the blue in the living area and blue kitchen accents such as a rug/ blind/ accessories. Given how contemporary the kitchen is I don’t think it will suit painting the cabinets and personally I think a soft white glass splashback or grey or bronzed mirror would be a cleaner look than the metro tiles (although I think the metro tiles will also go).

Now I think you have a good point there. Choosing a deeper neutral sounds good. I’m a fan of colour and I have a Dulux minty green in my kitchen, F&B Cromarty in my sitting room, Dulux Egyptian Cotton in the bedroom and aqua in the other bedroom. All these shades are soft though so not garish, apart from a navy feature wall in kitchen. Dulux do some lovely neutral shades like Perfectly Taupe, Chic Shadow and Polished Pebble. Of course colours are affected by the light in the room and those sort of shades can look a bit grim in a dark north facing room. PERFECTLY TAUPE CHIC SHADOW POLISHED PEBBLE

I think the white walls are fine in your bathroom, in fact the walls look more taupe than white on my iPad. It just needs accessorising. I would remove the red accessories which are a little dated, and add some warm metals instead. I don’t mean remove all the chrome, but add, say, a brass soap dispenser, a faux plant in a brass pot, some art on the wall with a brass/gold or black frames. Replace the loo roll holder with a brass one. It’s a nice bathroom which just needs accessorising. Pictures always look good in a bathroom so a picture above the loo and on the adjacent wall will improve things. Some ideas:

More similar to SW Dark Night, although dark night is a little more colourful than Hague Blue.

I personally wouldn't, I think the concrete and marble/white look great as they are in the images.

Thanks all! Confirmed my other half’s opinion! Decided on Dulux polished pebble for a off white paint 👍🏻
