VERY Narrow Bathroom Advice
I’m going round in circles with this bathroom. my Terrace cottage, built 1858, has a very narrow bathroom. id planned to change the bath to a roll top bath to give An illusion of more floor space.. however, I’ve realised the toilet pipe needs to run the length of the room behind the bath.
my plumber suggested moving the toilet to the end wall and bringing the bath up..
my mind is telling me
a. the sink needs to be near the toilet.
b. If I move them both, The bathroom door may open on to bath?
c. I rarely use the bath!
there is a separate walk in shower accessible in bathroom.. it’s built over the stairs. I’ve considered changing it to a space for toilet and sink (I could have a door installed in my bedroom which would lead directly to this?
But then the bath would be lost in a long bathroom!
any ideas, suggestions would be appreciated more than you can imagine

Comments (23)I really think it's a great basis for a lovely bathroom as it is. Here's what I would change to make it into the lovely, relaxed and luxurious space you're aiming for: roman blinds, change the photo frame for framed art with green tones in it, change the mirror for a larger and more elaborate one, find a small cart/trolley that holds towels and the items for daily use that are now on the little planchet. Comments (22)Front hallway- I say save your money leave it up. Cost of removal is minor but you will likely have to move radiators and electrics and make good plasterwork and coving- I say protect another £1500 profit. Present the larger back reception as a living room and present the front reception as the dining room. Given that the bathroom is likely to go upstairs make the downstairs bathroom into a room to access the garden- I would present the kitchen as a kitchen/breakfast room with doors to see the garden as being able to see from the front door to the back garden should pay dividend....See More- PRO

3 years agoOne needn't necessarily "compromise" between bath and shower here; they're not entirely trivial to find but a small number of manufacturers make _square_ (or at least, near-square / wide) shaped bathtubs (Japanese soaking tub style) at about 120cm width. I've found:

Such make a very luxurious bath (if money's no object, even a whirlpool / steam shower setting) while also providing more than ample space for great showering.
Yes, you'd probably need to have some small steps built to enter the bath.And a concern would only be whether the floor is strong enough (when used as a bath, it makes a difference whether there's 300l or 150l water in the tub).
Diagonally-installed corner baths may also be an option (quite a bit cheaper), something like:

which would also allow a better shower experience than a 70cm-wide standard bath. Not as deep as a soaking tub / wouldn't need steps.If going for something like that, I would actually "box-off" the corner and turn it into shelving for storage, so the bath turns into a bit of an "enclosed niche", something like:

3 years agoYou could consider something like a J-shaped bath, moving the taps to the end wall - that would break up the straight line running down the narrow bathroom and give a bit more space near the toilet - something like this:

This gives me more space to move the toilet down and have more space between it and the sink..
move even found a potential wallpaper for one wall.
my plumber is going to rip out the bathroom and check if the pipes for toilet can go underneath.
