Flooring Design Dilemma Kitchens

Help on kitchen Floor Tile Colour and Style

Hi there, looking for some advice. We have just knocked through from our kitchen to our dining room which has an oak parquet floor (with clear lacquer). The kitchen units are carbon gray but we can't work out what floor tiles to use in the kitchen which will work with the existing parquet floor. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Gorgeous floor. Could you carry on the wood floor into the kitchen, if the levels are suitable?

I THINK THE FLOOR WILL LOOK SENSATIONAL. IT WILL BE STUNNING WITH THE COLOUR OF YOUR UNITS. JUST WARM UP WITH ACCESSORIES, COPPER PANS AND ACCESSORIES ARE VERY TRENDY RIGHT NOW. KEEP THE WALLS LIGHT. As a contrast but to prove the colours work together. We have grey units and cream walls, so yes go for it. I think if you have a darker floor and lighter walls, you'll keep the airy theme. I wouldn't bother with named colour paints from the likes of F&B etc, instead as you want to get the shade right, pick your tile, take the tile and a drawer front to any shop that will mix paint and that offers hundreds of shades and get the pale grey right. It needs to be a warm grey to work with cashmere. I think the phrase now is Greige ( Grey / Beige ).

Hi Getty Welty What a shame about the worktop but I think it's almost a blessing in disguise. Once you have settled on the worktop my advice would be to take samples of the cupboards & worktop to a tile shop and look at them altogether. You really need to see a large tile together with the other samples to appreciate the overall look. A 10 x 10 sample is only a representation of the whole tile and the colour changes on a larger scale. We always advise our customers to do that if possible as its really important to make sure the overall tones work well together. Good luck with it all Karen

Hi Sarah, I think contrast usually adds a wow to any scheme. I think if your kitchen cabinet unit/doors are matt then go gloss on the floor tiles. I think if the cabinets are gloss then do a matt floor. Another consideration is how you want the room to feel. The polished gloss version will throw around more light and bounce off the surface. I recently had my very small bathroom re-tiled. We used the marble effect polished white/grey veined tiles. The light bouncing off everything feels so glamorous. Also when adding value to your home - adding space or adding light adds value.

These from Porcelanosa are lovely. I have similar in my bathrooms and I love them. I particularly like the mottled background and the colours which would pick out the grey and the wood.

Thanks @Sonia. Good shout. We did think about extending the parquet floor but i fear we will be unable to get a decent match - the existing floor has been down for about 60 years and has been sanded and treated a number of times so it has a fairly unique character. Really appreciate the suggestion. Wil give it some more thought.

Thanks @Juliet Docherty. Like it. Would liked to have ordered a sample but currently out of stock. Will do some investigation. May be able to find something similar elsewhere. Very much appreciated.

I think you can get them from various places, I know Peterborough has a Porcelanosa. I have their tiles and they are really good. You could also try Mandarin Stone, they have some nice patterned ones.
