External Brick wall behind cooker, tiles for splashback please?
Comments (2)Thank-you One Plan, yes, I agree, plain glass might be easiest, presumably toughened for behind a gas hob?, but I do love colour and the handmade slightly rustic feel feel, so wondering if anything more decorative might work?, although I can see the point for keeping the bricks on show behind glass. Comments (39)Jonathandb1972, I was thinking of going with a grout that is the same colour or lighter than the grey tile. The hex will be grouted in a medium grey. This has already been done in the loo (the hex) and looks great. Neither are grouted in the above picture. Do you think there will still be issues with where the grout lines are if they are the same or lighter than the tile? Also, where the hex tile in the shower meets the grey tile will mainly be covered by the shower's profile. However, the shower only goes up to about 2m, so there will still be a visible "meeting" of tiles above that. My builder is a little concerned about how this will look as he will have to cut small pieces of tile to fill up the edge, which may stain once they start grouting. I'm keeping my fingers crossed and hoping for the best......See MoreKitchen wall tiles that aren't metro tiles

Comments (11)Many thanks everybody for your feedback, it’s invaluable, I’d never even thought about the grouting! The tiles are old but don’t have nail marks in the corners so they’re definitely not pre1860. They also have printed images on them, not hand-painted, am I right in assuming Delft was always hand-painted? Looking at the mantelpiece it’s obviously not the original and we’ve just discovered a lovely parquet floor in one of the basement rooms that looks like it’s from the 50s or 60s, so... My guess is the whole apartment had a refurbishment in that period: the parquet floor was laid, new mantelpieces were put in and the tiles added. The fireplace in the parlour has a hearth which is just black, cracked stone and I’m guessing this one was the same and somebody thought they’d brighten it up with some tiles. I’m still not sure what to do with them next though! 🙂...See More28Clare 28Clare
