Advice on flooring for cloakroom

Hi,I have a small cloakroom, the floor of which was covered by carpet as a temporary fix. Having more time because of lockdown, I am flirting with the idea of trying tiling for the first time, but I don't know if it is a good option for the room. The floor underneath the carpet I assumed was concrete but actually it is red and seems to be crumbling a bit in places. If I cleaned it and covered with a primer, would it be OK to tile on? Or should I be looking for something like laminate?Thank you very much.

If it’s a small cloakroom I would suggest sheet vinyl which comes in hundreds of styles. I think tiling a small room will require a lot of tile cuts. I have vinyl in my bathroom and it’s fared well and has been down for 6 years. So easy to care for too. It will need a flat base.

shari39 yes you're right. I've done this a couple of times now. Just attach it with a bead of clear silicon around the edge of the glass, ie. hold the glass in place, and then apply the bead around the edge.

Hello, Isidora is correct here putting forward a porcelain product. They are far more robust than natural products and choosing a large format material will certainly make the space look bigger. We are seeing a big push for Concrete Effect material at the moment as well which will give your space a clean and contemporary feel. Cloakroom update, advice needed

I think it can be fun to do something a bit personal and 'different' in a cloakroom. So if it were me, and there weren't funds or time to do a full-makeover - I would choose a theme that had some connection with family interests, location, past -- e.g. perhaps a hobby, or a location of a special holiday, or a country that you're originally from, or a favourite animal/plant, musical instrument, music / paint genre or a favourite decade, or favourite superhero or movie. Then I'd go to All Posters and find a print or canvas related to that theme. Put that print/canvas on the wall opposite the toilet (for a good view!). Then choose a paint that matches some aspect of the picture/canvas. Not too dark. Paint the entire room in that colour. And paint the same colour but a darker shade around the recess of the mirror (like a frame). Choose a hand towel in a contrasting colour. Dunelm have lots of good colours; inexpensive. John Lewis too. Put up a chrome hand towel ring to the right hand side of the sink (so towel is not hanging on radiator). Get rid of current ornaments and replace with 3 things. (I really agree with the rule of thumb that things look good in 3s! Don't know why that is). Maybe three of the same lined up; or 3 of various heights placed in trio. Anything really, but would be extra bonus if the new ornaments had something to with the theme you chose for the picture. Get a new toilet brush and holder. Again Dunelm is good. Perhaps chrome or crisp white ceramic (not cream if your toilet bowl is white). Reduce the number of soap dispensers. One soap dispenser at a time. And one moisturiser if you want. Your black wire basket would be worth keeping if you are going to have moisturiser and soap. It like the way it looks on your mirror shelf. And last but not least - you might if you can - replace the ceiling light. There are loads of options, but it probably needs to be bathroom-rated IP44. Choose something that goes with the look you're trying to achieve. But I think that if you do the rest, this isn't essential. Your current spot lights are fine too. So that's my suggestion for a cheap makeover! I like A.S.' ideas if you have more energy for a full makeover.

Why change the sliding door I like it? Like your floor tiles. Think either half wood panel and wallpaper or wallpaper and some tiles at the sink would work. I’m sorry I tiled my small downstairs loo as I’ve seen lots of people use strong wallpapers in small cloakrooms and they look great

May I ask, what flooring do you have outside the cloakroom? What is the flooring throughout the entire house?

Hi @Ella Motahammadani It is laminate. The reason I thought of tiles is for practice - in the future I would like to turn a utility room into a toilet and I assumed that tiling would be the best option for that, though that may not be fully accurate I guess.

Okay, if that is what you are aiming for I would have to agree with @Sonia and go for vinyl. I had the flooring in my old house and it worked wonderfully.
