Front room colour choice

We are redecorating our terrace house front room. High ceilings, mahogany dado rail, and fire surround. We have done the woodwork and ceiling and above the picture rail crushed almond (very light creamy colour)There is a mahogany wood piano in the room.I had chosen a sage green for the walls, but now I am really not sure.What other colours would work well?Any suggestions gratefully receivedThankyou

It's worth thinking about the natural light in the room when looking at colours - e.g. if it is a north facing room the light can be a bit cold so it is important to choose a colour to help with that. What's the light like in this room?

Front room for me! we have three rooms opened into one large living space, this is great when you have a large family. I still say front room, but mainly to describe the location of say my book or glasses if I'm am asking somebody to fetch them for me. It makes for a quicker find :)

Thanks Colour Happy. Plasterer has been in already but only plastered where needed so I'm assuming that means we don't need to plaster behind wall paper (some of which had to be removed for the rewiring) and Painter seems happy enough to do remainder of filling/smoothing walls but thanks for the tip, I'll definitely check again with them. Re sisal, no dogs but small kids at home so need to stick to softer/more standard carpet!

Could you paint the doors the same colour as the walls? I am sure there is paint that covers aluminium If the glass is clear, put an opaque film on it? Having curtains seems to draw the eye. You want your eye to be drawn away. Perhaps some richly coloured artwork in the hall as a focus point.

The window faces west, there is also a front door with a little bit of light from that. I was looking to make the room with a cosy feel to it.

Sage Green will be lovely with all the dark wood color. It is quite a calm and relaxing color, so go for it :) you can also lighten the room more with lighter soft furnishings- like curtains and sofa/chair matching your Cream Almond paint.

I have sage green in my living room. It faces North East so gets morning light. There is a big bay window in it so never feels too dark. It’s a colour that looks lovely with pinks and reds so you could accessorise with those colours. I think painting your fireplace and dado rail in the crushed almond would soften the look a treat, if you are prepared to do that. This is Cromarty in my living room.

I’m a lover of greens but I would contemplate making the dado rail the same colour as the picture rail as that is very dark.

Our decorator was in yesterday - we have gone for a soft grey/sage green called Grosvenor Square by Mylands. It looks lovely with wood. Greens are very restful...

I'm a big fan of any green, but sage green has such a lovely feeling to it. Sage green is perfect, it fits well with both warm and cool tones. I think it will compliment creamy colours well and you could even throw in some greenish blue shades to keep the room light as the creamy colours will ensure you have your desired cosy feel to it.

I would choose your sofa, soft furnishings, floor etc first unless you have already and can post photos? Agree with Daisy re the dado rail or paint it in the wall colour
