Advice re: blind design for open plan kitchen/diner
Comments (73)I've had a look at activewindowfilms.co.uk sounds like there may be a small amount of light reduction, at the price it's worth a trial though. Yes, people stare straight in here! It's a bit uncomfortable when you feel like you have eye contact with a stranger when you're eating your dinner! :-) I guess it's human nature though... I'm not sure I can handle bolder with the splashback, mostly because I'm keen to keep it as neutral as possible, so that other items can be changed as fashion changes or if I sell up at some point. I had considered a mirror splash back.. I wasn't going to tile, just glass upstands below the sockets. 14:27 For privacy I think the first option would work if it really is invisible as it appears. The watery colour of the splashback works with the blinds and art. I wonder whether to go a bit bolder though? Are you tiling at all? Where did you get find the invisble film? I may try that as a temporary solution until we can afford shutters or curtains. People literally stop and gawp at our dining room!...See Moreadvice needed - lighting open plan kitchen diner
Comments (1)Inset ceiling down-lights in a grid pattern on a dimmer throughout the entire area will give you maximum flexibility for furniture placement as well as a good level of light for working / cleaning. i don’t know what the extent of your wall shelves will be but LED strips on their underside will assist with lighting the worktops. Floor / table lamps at the sitting / dining end and the pendants over your island would give good ‘layering of light’ for ambience. Make sure each lighting style is on a separate circuit and is dimmable.....See MoreKitchen/diner lighting/bulb advice
Comments (6)If the lights over the island are mood lighting and not task lighting (ie eating or atmosphere vs cooking lights) then go for a warmer power wattage bulb. We have all exposed bulbs in our open plan area and I’m swapping some of them for lower wattage and vintage style as it’s easier on the eyes, lol! If the lights are higher up and not directly around head height then a brighter one would also be ok. E27 is the size of the bulb ie chunkier stem vs the E14 which has that little thin stem. You can use any type of bulb in the fitting as long as it’s the right size stem and doesn’t exceed the light limits. LED us better and longer lasting of course....See MoreKitchen diner layout advice-where does the dining table go?
Comments (3)I would have the table against the wall (opposite window) with either a bench of built in seating, this way you could have space for a chair / sofa on the opposite aide. If you used a bench, you could then put the table centrally for occasions (xmas etc). I think a central feature light would still work with wall lights to table area....See MoreChristina Malikia
