Garage Door and Front Door Repaint ASAP- Help Please!

We have made the decision to respray and replace glass in current front doors and garage doors rather than replace them. The current doors have red stained glass pattern in the window, and the blue is inside and out - which I think looks a bit awful - especially inside! Any idea what colour we should go for. Wondering about anthracite or would a pale colour work better. Need to soften the look of a very angular looking house! Many thanks in advance.

Thank you for all your suggestions - stage 1 complete of updating the frontage of our house. We agonised over 3 similar ral colours, but finally ended up with this as the best match for the brick. We also changed the glass in the doors from red/clear patterned glass to plain.

is it a double door or 2 separate doors?

perhaps you could extend the bed on the left in a curve outwards?

Thanks minnie101, it is a double door into a single dwelling if that makes sense!? We are going to redo the front drive at some point so hoping we can adjust the beds each side to help soften the house a little too! You think to go to dark green? Thanks so much for your help.

Thank you Colorhappy, I was secretly hoping you would comment as you clearly know all about colour, something I definitely struggle with a little. I think your suggestion of a stone colour for the render and a green blue for the doors would look lovely, and I love the idea of it relating to the greenery in the garden. Do you have any suggestions for a stone colour? I have looked at F&B for the green/blue, they have a paint actually named green/blue, but I am not sure if this is too much of a literal interpretation of your advice :-) I also like the oval room blue too, do you think this could work? I love Stiffkey blue, but not sure if this is too rich/deep a colour and would end up looking dark? The front of the house faces north but still gets lots of great light, the house is elevated somewhat so it is never in shadow if that makes any difference to our choice of colour?

I agree about the garage trim - it seems a tad chunky and very white, so a big contrast to the door. Painting would help to balance it. Are your windows new too or are they being replaced? It would be good if the top and bottom windows of the bay were more similar (in terms of where the openers are and the proportions between the top openers and bottom panes).

Daisy, that’s interesting about swapping the panes around upstairs. I always thought it was better the way they are now so any reason for that or just personal preference? Next door is the other way around. But talking of next door Minnie, it has not been updated in decades and so I’d like to not diverge too much but at the same time take the lead in updating IYKWIM. When I finished the later mock up with the existing style of windows I did think it looked nice. Maybe the porch and planting improves the overall look along with a fair bit of doodling photoshop!

I wasn’t sure as the photo went blurry when I expanded it and it’s a bit unusual to have the white inbetween?

i liked the colour with the brick but happy to try any other colours for you if it helps?

Love a front door colour dilemma! There are colours that look particularly good with red brick from sage green, pale grey and taupe, but I think most colours would look good. Here’s a selection of front doors that may, or may not, appeal to you.

Hi, I think a lighter colour will give it a softer look than anthracite. I've painted it anthracite, grey/beige-ish and sage(ish) green for you. See what you think:

Looks like a great spacious house.

I feel the entrance and front door look a little ‘flush’ and uninteresting, regardless of colour.

Is there perhaps the possibility of resetting the doors into the building a little?

Alternatively you could maybe consider some kind of canopy.

You have a point E D, the door looks like a later addition and is set too far forward. I wonder if there is (or was) an inner door and an outer porch which has now been enclosed?

I too think the overall look of the 2 doors looks strange. For me I think a side panel and a door would look better.

thank you everyone - some really interesting feedback. The porch was a later addition (there was a small clad porch prior to this judging by other houses in the road. There is still an internal door (offset to the right of the porch) . We would love to open up the porch or put an oak frame style one in, however we are on a reasonably tight budget. (hence painting the doors etc rather than replacing). Really am liking the softer, light colours - give it some warmth. There is no covered area/storm porch for opening the front door - so it is still something we should perhaps consider. Agree it would definitely give the house better kerb appeal. Thanks again - I will do some pricing exercises!

It's weird that the inside of the door is painted the same colour as the outside, I definitely would change that! My front door is black on the outside, but the inside is white. So whatever colour you choose for outside, I wouldn't say it needs to carry through to inside.

My vote goes for soft sage green.

Not weird at all Neesa. My postbox red front door is painted both inside & out and it makes the hallway. I think Minnie101s door frame should be painted as well as the doors, I think the white band around & through the doors does it no favours. But to really soften the look I would extend the planting - the existing looks good but there is not enough of it for the size of the house.

We will definitely carry the colour through to the inside - it is just the blue is very difficult to match with our proposed style throughout the house. Thanks for all your help - will post a picture of what we finally go ahead with! Thanks again!

I agree with Carolina, it still needs something.

Perhaps a simple canopy, possibly with lights built in.

I would be inclined to have wall washing lights either side. Not sure about a canopy unless it is pitched like the existing porch roof with brick infill either side but otherwise kept open. Maybe stick with the lights first to see if that alone does the trick.

Making the bed on the left the same shape as that on the right and repeating the planting would help to bring symmetry. I am not sure about the two tall Pom Pom shrubs in front of the windows. Sorry I cannot make out what they are. Could they be moved one at each corner of the house perhaps to make a full stop? Taking away some of the grass to extend the drive in front of the door would open up the entrance too. It is difficult to see on the photo but the grass seems to curve towards the door. It would be better if it followed the curve of the drive out and away from the door, basically an expansion of your step that seems to be a curve, and then return in front of the bed on the left in the photo. You could have a path here in front of the left bed in the same material as the drive.

I know planting and reconfiguration of your drive wasn’t on your remit so I hope you don’t mind!
