Help with bathroom grout colour!

I have recently had an ensuite bathroom done and I am overall really unhappy with the final grout colour. I feel like there is too much of a contrast with the dark grout of the white tiles. It also doesn't match up with the softness of the floor tiles. Can anyone recommend any grout colours that they would recommend going for with the wall tiles that would look a bit better? I just want the room to come together more as at the moment it doesnt match for me. The harshness of the grey in the white seems too dark. And I think overall the room would look better if the walls were less harsh and the floor was darker so that your eye isn't drawn to the tiles (they are Mapei 112 for reference on the walls)

I see what you mean however I think you need to give it a bit more time as it’s still new and other time you might not care?Personally I think you need to add colour via plants, towels and paint.

I agree about giving it more time. However if you really want to change, maybe check out Jasmine as a colour. We redid our bathroom last year and had marble tiles that are mostly white. The stone supplier recommended jasmine grout and it was perfect.

Catherine, It really depend on the style of your home and your personal tastes here. Black is my immediate thought as it works really well with the colours you mentioned and makes both white and silver look stunning. Black adds definition and a sleekness. To best effect, this would work well with Contemporary or Art Deco style rooms which is why I mentioned the style of the house. Do you have a picture you could upload? If you demand more of a statement then I would recommend Reds/Pinks or to be on trend and a bit more subtly try the Deep Indigo or Blue. I hope it helps and look forward to seeing the design. Thanks so much for the replies everyone and very sorry for the delay in coming back. One final question if you don't mind - the other bathroom (not pictured) is north facing but looks straight onto a grassy bank which does get a lot of sun - as a result if you look at the window it's just green which reflects into the room and it seems a very odd colour. Would something with a red tone on the walls help neutralise this do you think? PS. the big white bin in all the images is a nappy bin which hopefully won't be around for much longer!

I too like the shiny white tiles in the photo. Although you made me look at them again after reading your reservations about possible associations with a 'gents loo', haha, but I don't think it will look like one. I think they can look great with a blue floor. In your photo it looks more like grey though.

I would also say to give it time! Also from experience of having both pale grey and dark grey grout the dark is much easier to clean. The pale grey shows water marks worse than white...

How would you remove the existing grout without damaging the tiles? Resin based grouts are really hard, (if it is resin based).

Just a random thought - but would darker skirting tiles that matched the dark grout of the floor draw your eye down more? Not black - but a darker grey. That would give some contrast between the 2 walls and being them together

Each to their own, but for what it's worth, I think it looks fab, and lighter grout might have looked a bit dull. A splash of paint or wallpaper on the walls and this will look great.

Thanks all. I'm leaning towards some paint - can anyone recommend a colour that might tie it all together a bit? Maybe a greige off white was what I'm thinking?

I think it’s a lovely bathroom and those floor tiles are beautiful. I think you can get grout pens to change the colour of the grouting - I saw Angel in Escape to the Chateau use a gold one for her luxurious bathroom. Or could a tiger help? Might be worth a phone call. But I really don’t think you need to.

Forgot to share some greige paint ideas. I think F&B Skimming Stone Or Dulux Egyptian Cotton may do the trick,depending on light levels as to how intense they will look. Second pic is Skimming Stone.

Unfortunately I can’t find a picture, but we had white tiles + grey grout + Egyptian cotton in our kitchen at our previous house and it’s a lovely warm neutral colour.

I think your problem here is the wall colour and absence of cabinetry to break up the grey. If you're happy to replace the basin, it looks like there's room for a little base cabinet - something like this but with an oak countertop and obviously in a different paint shade. For the walls I would go darker, Any number of paint shades would work but how about Fired Earth Cobble or F&B Shaded White on the walls and FE China Clay or F&B Hardwick White on the cabinet? Then add an oak mirrored wall cabinet something like below - a double if there's space. Pelmet downlighting will help to reduce the impact of the grey.

I think the grout colour is perfect. Ho about focusing on softening with the wall paint colour - so much easier as well!

This one is easy.

Go to your local B&Q, the range or BnM, any hardware store. And get a GROUT PEN. I would suggest getting one in white and just penning over the grout. Then if you wanted to put a light grey grout pen over the white you could. Instead of the dark grey black you have on now BTW I think your bathroom looks awesome I would put up some industrial type shelving, abd accessories it with frames bits abd bibs ect and a few green plants. For what it's worth, I think it looks absolutely great as is. I think perhaps your worry is that the grout is somehow de-emphasising the gorgeous floor tile. I personally don't like an eye being drawn to the floor and the way it is now, does create a bit of tension, but good tension in my view. The wall tile with grey grout gives the room the urban edge I assume you were going for but then offset by that great floor. I like the eclectic aspect to it. Grout choice is always difficult, but if you went for white, I think it'd be a wash out. Don't forget the reason you opted against white in the first place! That reason is still there. :) I actually also like the white walls. Throw in an accent colour and a plant, boom! If you want to feel better, Google or Pinterest Paris Metro platform photos...
