what colour bureau?

hi as you can see my room is pink and cream. i am planning on painting the bureau - please ignore coloured lines- which will go to the right of the chimney. i’m not sure what colour to go with but i like pink blues and greens. please can i have your thoughts on colours and ranges i should go with. thanks a lot.

Sorry , I'm a wood fan and wouldn't paint unless the finish was beyond repair!

I'd take to the dip and strip probably. Do you know the natural tone of the wood?

It depends what sort of look you are going for - if you want something quite neutral, a range of tones in those shades with plenty of textures would create a comforting space. For example, smooth wooden floors with a cream rug and darker knitted throws. However if you want to introduce an accent colour, a warm yellow or duck egg blue would look nice!

Might sound crazy but a subtle two tone might work not colour blocking but a gradual subtle shade diff a soft off white blue grey teal on top that will not fight against the very bright white window frames and keeping a small room light.. and then getting to a soft blue grey darker teal colour with a soft graded border. And consider painting the unit soft white with an all surface soft white mat or soft sheen paint. Pop up a large piece B&W family photo or a family picked piece of wall art or something wacky like a giant gold fish on a white background framed in a thin bright orange frame and job done...or look up dark snugs/dens with rich bold colours can work well if done correctly .. good luck..

Thanks Jonathan. I’m not totally adverse to the yellow and perhaps your right less yellowish window might help crisp up. I like the warmth statement and blending with greenery that current colour has but it needs painting badly and so having moved in last year feel need to make a change and loose yellow. I suppose as it is tired and everything in the house is either yellow or green (avocado) and tired!!! I’ll look at greys with off white windows as you suggest......

I’d echo the colours from the kitchen, for a simple,cohesive look. Also blends in well with the view outside too ! Then you can add bright or muted tones in your cushions etc to suit your mood or the seasons ( as cushion covers are quick to change and easy to store)

If you do paint, I think the style would need a dark colour which might not sit so well with the rest of the decor.

I think a lot of this dated dark furniture is greatly improved by a paint job. I painted 2 huge bookcases which took ages but they do look so much better now. I can’t quite picture a colour, but pastel green would be nice, or go dark grey, but I’m not sure it will sit well with the room colours? Here’s some ideas
