Comments (9)No experience but it might be an idea to talk to an estate agent to see how much value having a communal garden would add to the property value/rental income. It could well give the landlords a reason to invest. Even if it doesn't add significant value in cash terms it could however mean flats never remain unoccupied. There may also be some budget within the management company's pot? Hopefully the offices would be willing to chip in as it's of benefit to their employees. The only potential issue I foresee is with the bars, how do you stop drinkers accessing the terrace? Do all owners/tenants have access rights to the terrace? Have you spoken to other residents about this? I would probably suggest holding a residents meeting. Outline various proposals for developing it. If you have support from other residents then elect a committee etc to drive it forward ie seek quotes for each option, time to develop, check if any planning permission is required, outline the incentives etc etc. Once you have all this information regroup with the residents, take a vote on the favourite and then present it to the the management company. Comments (28)Thanks for your advice both of you. We live in England to answer your question Gabby. Is there a rule in Scotland that the aisles have to be 120cm and if so why ? Jonathan, I was kind of thinking we would want to use the island for eating meals on like we do now with our current kitchen table, but I guess if the DR is open to the kitchen then it wouldn't be a problem to take a few steps more to the dining room table (because we use it so infrequently at the moment I am finding that hard to visualise). I am going to post a better plan of our current kitchen and dining room (with the pantry taken out) and I am also going to post a photo looking out from the window in our dining room. I am wondering if we did turn the DR into our kitchen could we make the window ledge higher and put the units in an L-shape so we could put the sink in the window? (and still have space for an island) I know this goes against some of my earlier points, especially about being worried people would be able to look in at us/and would create a more goldfish bowl feeling but I am just playing around with ideas....See MoreHow are we all doing?

Thank you for this design, I really like your presentation and it does encourage me to ‘have a go’ with the art work, although I don’t think I’ll be posting any of my efforts on here! I wish I also shared your enthusiasm about growing green fingers, but I will try and I’m quite determine to give it a go. Thank you so much for all your ideas and designs over the last few days.. it is really quite humbling the help and enthusiasm from all on here, especially in these days of unprecedented and bizarre circumstances. It has also given me a boost and of course something to focus on whilst on lockdown (I’d never would have had the time/or the weather to have launched myself into this in normal times!) Hopefully I’ll be able to come back to you with some early stage pics of the garden and some design ideas that we’ve taken up.
