Ideas needed. Bathroom reconfiguration Victorian terrace

Help!

Currently living in a 1900’s Victorian terrace. It’s is perfect minus the main bathroom being off the master bedroom. We have a downstairs shower and toilet but it’s something that has started to bother me. Possible move within the next 3+ years and I just really feel moving the bathroom would complete the house.

Questions;

1. is it doable?

2. where could I go?

3. would it be worth the money?

ive been thinking about this for the last 2 years and finally found a forum I may be able to get some advice.

I suspect it may be easier to create a very small en suite off bedroom 2, perhaps using the storage space above the stairs plus a bit of the bedroom, rather than trying to move the current bathroom somewhere else. You might need a macerator loo though depending on whether they can connect up to the soil pipe from there (looks like it may be tricky). Or maybe no loo, just a shower and sink, and keep the second loo downstairs.

If the current bathroom feels quite large then it could be changed to an en suite and dressing area for the master bedroom.

Hi Ashleigh, It depends on how much work you would like to do on the property. If you are looking to move in the near future, maybe sprucing it up a little might make you feel better.

However, creating a hallway cutting through the master bedroom might be an option, it would make the master bedroom smaller however the space would function better, you could close off the door between bathroom and master. meaning no one has to walk through to get to the bathroom. Or maybe if there is room to extend into the back, you would have more space to explore other options. Front hallway- I say save your money leave it up. Cost of removal is minor but you will likely have to move radiators and electrics and make good plasterwork and coving- I say protect another £1500 profit. Present the larger back reception as a living room and present the front reception as the dining room. Given that the bathroom is likely to go upstairs make the downstairs bathroom into a room to access the garden- I would present the kitchen as a kitchen/breakfast room with doors to see the garden as being able to see from the front door to the back garden should pay dividend.

Thank you for your advice, I think I was thinking similar options. I like both the en suite and dressing area and I think a spruce up whist we decide. I shall post a picture of the bathroom for interest. It is large. Any advice on ventilation whilst I’m here? There’s a small window and it’s not enough.

You could quite easily put a velux in the sloping section of the roof which could be opened when you need more ventilation. Steam rises so veluxes get rid of it very quickly. Would also add lots of lovely light of course.

PS for a temporary spruce up, I think painting the bath panel and repainting the wall a fresher colour would make a big difference. Possibly a new light fixture too.

Thank you mini pie. I was considering painting the bath panel. I’m new to diy, would this need sanding and would it be better to spray or paint?

Yes you would need to sand to create a rough surface (key) for the new paint to stick to. You don’t need to get off every scrap of varnish though, just roughen it all up a bit. A good primer will also help a lot. Spray painting is a job for professionals IMO so I would do it by hand.
