Front garden to driveway conversion
Comments (22)Traditionally, drives have gone in a straight line up to the house, which was fine when the family only owned one car but since then many of us have two and it is a pain having to move cars around. With this in mind, I suggested to my husband to curve a new driveway around under the bay window, a bit like a tree trunk with a branch. Mindful of not totally tarmacing, we have been able to keep grass areas on both sides. My husband took some convincing, mindful of extra cost and he being the man, that this was his domain but it works we are very pleased with the result....See MoreHuge Driveway, Huge cost!?
Comments (6)I would get quotes for cost, labour differs hugely depending on where you live. I must admit I like gravel if that is an option. If im honest though I would not concrete over all of that, I think it would detract hugely from the house. Could you not just have a drive on the left as it would fit at least 3 cars? Maybe have a path to the door, lawn and a few large shrubs/trees to keep maintenance low. I'm not a big fan but if you really don't want to do any gardening then have a look at artificial turf, some of them are quite realistic although I'm not entirely convinced they're maintenance free! Alternatively pay a retired person to do an hour or 2 each week when the lawn needs cutting...See Morecreating a front entrance ‘gate’ as a main door??
Comments (9)You will be altering the appearance of the front elevation. Planners, and planning departments, have different interpretations of the rules. It would be prudent to procure some pictures of your proposed gates ,and discuss your ideas informally with the local area planner before incurring any expense. Say you want to tidy up the front ( bins etc ) and provide better security to the dwelling ( a planning consideration ) and sound them out. It should be ok but for a bit of time it saves the potential hassle if they have a local policy and you were to buy gates that were, for instance too high for their liking without planning permission. I have had 2 instances recently were locals have not liked someone's gates and have informed the planners who insisted on a planning application. Either way it should be ok eventually. Good luck....See MoreRough cost to convert this front garden into a driveway
Comments (3)I recently had an old deck removed in my back garden and replaced it with paving. The area was quite small , 11 square metres. It took 8 days in total to complete and the cost was £2520. Materials were £920 and Labour was £1600 for one builder and one labourer....See MoreTani H-S
