Help with difficult living space
Comments (3)Unable to see what the room looks like in natural daylight or there is indeed a good source of natural light. However, avoid a single lighting source, i.e a chandelier. The chandelier you have makes the corners of the room dark and gives a closed-in feeling. Have LED downlights installed across your ceiling - six to eight should spread the brightness across the room and allow light to reach the dark corners. They save energy too £££ :)...See MorePlease help - sofa and chair arrangement in a very long living room
Comments (10)My experience for the distance between tv and point of watching is how big the tv is. You could also try and see what distance suits you. In my experience, you as a dweller create how you intend to use the space: watching tv / reading / entertaining / kids playing / guests sleeping / playing an instrument/ plants or a collection exposition / writing / paying bills / printer & IT hub... I am just brainstorming... In my case, I like to create piles: out of my books and magazines for projects, library books to return so separate from the many books we have, so I tend to welcome long shelves or tables. Sometimes it’s convenient to have separate dining and work tables - if you have space - because you can keep the surfaces dedicated for different activities. But again, it all depends on how you (want to) use the space....See MoreEnough space for a dining room table in open plan living space?
Comments (17)I’m no good at drawing floorplans but womdered if this would work: - Keep the island but turn it 90 degrees to face the garden. You will probably need to drop to 2 bar stools - Shorten the kitchen run with the sink and hob on it. One of those may need to go on the island - Dining table goes in front of the doors to the garden, parallel to the island and to the doors - then in the space in between your island and your dining table, basically under the big steel, you put a small sofa on the kitchen side of the room and a tv on the opposite wall. Yes it’s a walk way but this is not your main tv watching area, it’s just for the kids while you prep lunch etc....See MoreNew house has long living room, need help with layout and design.
Comments (10)Hello! Wow! Thank you very much for your advice. So, there is a radiator on the right hand wall. That is where current owners put their tv. Not sure it will fit, will measure up soon hopefully. The TV could go on a smaller unit to be honest, and will make sure radiator is turned down! Just worried that there isn't enough room for a corner sofa there with the door to the hallway..(see photos on rightmove) I LOVE the idea of large mirrors either side of fireplace. Pinching that! ;) My current living room is decorated in shades of greys and lots of gold. Thinking of going navy and gold but not too sure. Sofa colours argh! Huge thanks I'm very grateful.
