Sliding door supplier and installer - looking for recommendation

We were planning a kitchen refurb prior to lockdown 1.0, which would have included replacing our old French doors with some modern sliding doors. The kitchen refurb is on hold until Q3 2021 or Q2 2022, but we are keen to proceed with replacing the old French doors. The problem is that I don't seem to be able to find a company who will do that - the ones I have found generally expect you to have a builder and/or architect in place and we don't need either for now.

Does anyone have any recommendations please for a company who will do all of the work in removing the old doors and supplying/installing the new ones? Thanks!

I think local window/door companies would be your best bet 🤔

What material do you want your new doors made in? If it’s timber find a local joiner. If it’s metal or plastic find a local door company. Most of these companies supply and fit.

Hi. Is your builder referring to brick slips? These can be used on walls as tiles, they do not look fake (they're essentially a very slim brick but I think some some them are real brick ie a sliver of brick whereas others are not). I think you can buy them as prefabricated walls/sheets or alternatively buy some kind of grid system to install (my builder told me but can't remember the name of the system but it wouldn't mean you don't necessarily need a pro to fit). Have a look at brick slips.co.uk but they're sold in a lot of places. This pic is from ebay. I think they're a fair bit cheaper than £60sqm but don't quote me as may be wrong! Do ask your builder as well

Hi Tani, I am sorry, I missed your message earlier. In this heat wave it has been very hot, particularly as we are south facing. The sliding roof lights above have been fantastic as you can let out all that hot rising air and it with all the doors open and roof lights, it feels just right! We have 4 roof lights that are 1m x 2m each. The sliding doors are 7.4m and 3.4m. The room is 10m by 6.5m. Minipie, ODC were good at first, but they lost interest in me and I ended up buying the same sliding doors a couple of weeks later from another company for a much cheaper price. I also got it colour matched at the RAL colour for the same price! It's worth shopping around.

Sorry, I should have said. It is an aluminium sliding door we're looking for (I had intended to buy it from Maxlight when we were doing the full kitchen refurb). And we're based in South London. Thanks.

I’d give Maxlight a call and ask for a price for a replacement door. I’d think they would come and measure etc. Their enquiry form mentions drawings etc, but I can see no reasons why they’d not do a simple door replacement. It’s worth a phone call I’d say.

If Maxlight are your preferred supplier then I would ask them who they have as recommended fitters. Surely they’d have some if they only supply.

We’ve just replaced bifold with slim sliding doors. Our architect suggested Maxlight but we went with ODC as they have a showroom near Chiswick so we could actually see and touch the product. Always get the same company to fit so they give you a guarantee. They also come and survey so they are ordering the correct size and look at any potential issues eg how to get the doors into the house etc. We’re really happy with our new doors.

I’ve used Globe Home Improvements. Family run firm and Phil is lovely. They have offices in London and Bedfordshire. They have a website and Facebook page if you want to have a look?
