Rugs size. Please help

What size rug should you buy for a room this. From the edge of the sofa to the edge of the fireplace floor is 160cm. But i don’t think going all the way to the edge of the fire would look right. I always get rug sizes wrong !

Rugs look better if they are quite large with the furniture legs on it, or at least the front legs. It can touch the fireplace or it can be pulled away a little. Here’s a guide.

I must admit I‘m not keen on rugs right against fireplaces or tv units either!

can the sofa in the foreground go opposite the one under the art as just wondering if it would look better? Might be good to see more angles of the room. I only ask to work out the size but I suspect a standard size won’t work. There are a few irregular ones around though or you can layer them or (strike me down) anchor a table with a break the “rule” rug!

I'd go with the lighter rug for the bedroom and place it partially or all under the bed. I agree the lounge rug can go larger. Personally I'd go for a cool colour, the walls and ceiling are cool but everything on the floor is warm. Either go for a similar shade to the light one you have found or choose another with a stronger pattern to add interest. Or go a bolder colour if you want to add cushions

I think a rug looks nicer and cosier if the furniture’s front legs are on it, as pictured below. I’ve also attached a guide to rug sizes which may help. Room looks lovely by the way! Click on the pics to get the full picture.

Thanks very much for your insight! I’m happy with the room generally and there are black accents around the rest of the room including big black and copper drum shades that tie in with the fireplace. It was more the question of rug size. The photo angle I took is a bit of a strange angle so I’m not sure circle would work that well here. I like the long pile one but again I’m not sure would work too well practically or otherwise.

You definitely haven't got the whole lot wrong. I think it looks a very smart room. I like the shape and colour of your sofas and think they look great with the curtain/cushion fabric. Likewise I think the rug is a really good colour. I wouldn't change colour but if I you really pushed me I'd say get a bigger size (poss more about me than you! I've always kicked myself for not going larger with rug in my living room). Again if I was splitting hairs I'd say the colour of the units (TV, side tables etc) is not quite right. It's a bit too warm beigey for the other colours in there. So I'd maybe consider painting those either darker, cool undertone colour or maybe even the cream/white shade you've got on radiator wall/alcoves.
