ugly wall decor help needed!!!

I’m trying to figure out a way to decorate the wall behind my living room sofa for a year now. As you can tell from the picture behind the sofa is this ugliest ever cupboard that I’ve painted in the same colour as to the wall and replaced the handle in an effort to make it bearable for my eyes. The colour is a very light grey, I think it’s polished pebble from dulux. Im thinking to hang some posters on the wall but hesitate on whether to go over the cupboard or only stick to the free space next to it. I’m afraid if I leave it empty it’ll stand out even more but can’t figure out how I could arrange things to make it blend . Any suggestions will be really appreciated, you can’t really do any worse than what it currently is.

I have a similar cupboard behind the sofa, but the back of my sofa is quite high so luckily it’s not too visible. I think the bareness of the wall makes the cupboard stand out, so I think a nice big piece of art spanning the wall (not the cupboard) will make a huge difference. I’m also thinking painting that wall and cupboard a dark colour such as dark grey, navy or a deep blue-green. Examples below. That will really make the art stand out. I would also change the knob to blend with the new wall colour so a matt finish, not shiny.

Thank you so much, these are all great ideas! I’ve also thought about painting the wall a dark colour but was worried it’d make the room feel smaller and it’s already not a really big room but indeed it’s probably make the cupboard blend in better. Let me know please what you end up doing with yours, I d be very interested to see a picture!

Have you ever considered a real interesting eye catching piece of art work to really brighten up an area I think a select piece of art would really make the space stand out, add interest, colour, texture and add a great talking point to the room.... It’s a lovely room but due to the number of doors it doesn’t feel quite like a room in its own right. I might consider painting the doors in the wall colour which will help enormously (you could also add curtains), As celery girl said I think a large rug where the front feet of the furniture sit on the rug will also have the same effect and also agree re the plant and art. I would add an accent colour and bring in both texture and pattern. I think the room would also benefit from a floor lamp and table lamp/s to cosy it up. It’s hard to make shopping suggestions as you’re not in the uk but perhaps post things you find for comment? I’d also move the water dispenser by the stairs

Hi Hu, Just looking through the images you've uploaded and it's got a very masculine/bachelor pad feel - not a bad thing by the way - in fact the opposite it's a good key theme. I am just trying to work out if you want to go all out on the theme or if you are trying to soften it. As you have a lot of dark tones in the living space I would opt for blinds in a neutral shade - maybe a white large slat venetian or white tape blind to keep some smooth straight lines and structure. Curtains....depending on look you could opt for a stripe (diagonal) or a plain colour like a beige (or linen as someone else has suggested to introduce a softer lighter fabric). I think the current grey rug clashes against the brown sofa, so adding in a palette of beige, brown and even charcoal/black could work really well (see below images for rug ideas). As the space is so large, open and bright I would look at adding in a nice coffee table, this will balance out the corner sofa - and create a relaxing zone (see other attached images on how layout, furniture and colours could work with the brown sofa). A nice wall mounted unit under the tv would be a great way to keep the space open and tidy away all the wires from the PS and other technology you have. I would move the large lamp to either go in the right corner behind the sofa or to the left of the radiator. Love the style of the bathroom, add in some display pump bottles (maybe the amber style ones) for hand soap, shampoo, conditioner, bubble bath etc and some peacock blue or mustard towels as well as either a small real plant or artificial to go on the worktop behind the toilet and that room is done. Kitchen wise - it's very modern industrial chic which I really like - under the wall cupboards are they hanging rails? I'm intrigued to know. I just painted it the same green as the walls, but as you can see it’s not too visible, but still there!

I think art and cushions would help a lot. (I’ve just added anything so ignore what I’ve added!)

if you wanted to go further would a magnetic catch help so get rid of the handle altogether .

Oh thank you so ever much! Never thought of a magnetic catch tbh but it’s very smart!at I ask which tool you used to add the paintings on the image? I’m also thinking about a triple print arrangement but fear they need to be placed quite high if they are to span over the cupboard and it’ll look odd. It’d be nice to be able to experiment with it digitally before actually buying anything!

Yes it might work, I’ve got my meters in cupboards in my basement with magnetic catches (and art over the top but the cupboards are flush with the the wall).

I just use a version of photoshop and magic eraser compatible for an iPad. I’m useless but there are lots of free options.I agree hang the art to connect with the sofa but I think that height would work
