Is this enough space for a bathroom and laundry?

So, we have a small kitchen with tricky workable space and so would really love to have a laundry area within the bathroom. I know there are restrictions electricity wise, but I *think we have good options with this space. But I’m a total noob and would love some help with where to start.

The whole HWC is being removed and nothing has to stay where it is at the moment. Considering Omnitub or similar shorter bath so that’s an option too.

Part of me loves the idea of a glass block wall in there somewhere to separate the bath are from the laundry but again I have no clue where to start.

Help!!

Could you move the wall so the laundry is in the hwc space but accessed from the landing? The washer and dryer could be stacked rather than side by side if need be. Then the bath (perhaps a bit shorter) fits in the remaining space?

Hi Tayzia,

I agree with the comment above regarding access to the washer/dryer from the landing rather than the bathroom. This would also help with your electrical issue.

I've been thinking about options to cover all basis and came up with this. To allow guests to use a bath/shower the ensuite would be shared. I added a wall in the master bedroom to divide it and add privacy so guests don't have to walk into the bedroom to get to the bath/shower. The upsides are that the ensuite is larger, includes a bath and shower and has more vanity room. Also, by diving the bedroom I can add sort of a walk-in wardrobe. The downsides are that there's only one bath/shower that has to be shared and guests have to walk through the walk-in wardrobe to get to it. Also, it reduces the size of the master bedroom but it's quite a long room anyway and it would cut out the light from the windows in the bedroom. Personally I don't see these as big problems but I guess some people won't like it. Do you think this is a good idea?

Hi Richard, My thoughts, (and I'm not an expert, so just a personal opinion), but I think the wetroom idea will be a total nightmare to keep clean. I would also be concerned that it not would be the safest option with young children in the house. Unless you are going to meticulously dry the floor down after every shower, anyone using the room afterwards, washing their hands at the sink for example would need to walk on a wet and possibly slippery floor. Also not ideal if you walk around the house in socks.... wet feet.. :-/ Even with really good drainage the floor would remain wet for some time after each shower. These concerns may only bother me though, these things are so subjective, but I always consider how much work will be involved in keeping a room clean and looking great....and the fact that the bath would get wet and no doubt splatted with shampoo and shower gel every time someone showered would have me in there constantly cleaning. This option is definitely also the more costly option as tanking would be required, and I you plan to sell in a year or so, I am not sure it would add value equivalent to your spend on the room. I would go for a nice shower over bath arrangement, this can still look lovely and high end. For example:

Main Bathroom Vanity/Laundry Unit Dilemma. Please HELP!

Hi everyone, I'm currently in the process of picking out a vanity and laundry unit for our main bathroom. Our apartment is quite small, so the only space available for a washer/dryer is in the main bathroom. However, I do not want to leave them 'exposed', rather I would like to place them in a unit (separate from the vanity). The dilemma is this, I really have no clue what laminate color/wood to choose! At first I was imagining a dark oak wood to warm up the room, however, our kitchen is already a dark wood shade (image attached) and I'm scared the bathroom will end up looking like a continuation of the kitchen (which I do not want). The tiles in the bathroom are StoneOne by Marca Corona in Ivory https://www.marcacorona.it/en/collections/marca-corona/stoneone/ (it's sort of a cement beige with greyish undertones). For bathroom fixtures we have the Crosswater MPRO in chrome, a 1.4 by .8 meter walk in shower (white shower tray), the Glide II Crosswater toilet in gloss white and the Cielo Shui rectangular washbasin also in gloss white. I'm aware that the vanity and the unit do not need to match perfectly, however, I would love some ideas :)

Depends on style/functionality you’re after - we are having a Japanese inspired bathroom (shower first, then soak in a tub) and will be buying an Omnitub - they are very deep. They have a showroom, we visited when we holidayed in Bath and Bristol last year. I’ll check out Lusso tub myself, have their vanity unit in the garage, waiting for us to begin the refurb.

I did wonder about this... although I also contemplated “building” a wall in the existing bathroom - but the more I think about it, the more I think access from the landing could be really cool. Maybe with sliding doors or something...

Before even contemplating the landing idea consider how much space you need to stand, open the doors and put stuff in and out. In that position you could be at risk of stepping back and falling downstairs.

I wouldn’t intend to encroach into the landing space... so there would be the same space as there is now. And probably sliding doors too!
